1963 Fender Super Amp (Brownface)

So I think I am set on buying my brother's buddy's 1963 Fender Super Amp. He and I are trying to come up with a price so I have been watching them on eBay for a few weeks. The last two that sold went for $16xx.xx and was in pretty good condition. It had a non original handle, one non original knob and a changed power tranny. I know the tranny killed the value a good bit, but the next one I watched went for $45xx.xx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The one for $4500 was in the same condition the one I am looking at is in. It was basically pristine and 100% original. The only difference in mine and the $4500 one is the grill cloth color. Mine has the maroon (I think thats what its called) and the other has wheat colored cloth.

The way we were talking he'd want $1600-$1800 for his amp. I am now lost and have no idea what the amp should go for. Given one that is missing the original power tranny went for $1600, I'd say that I can get this one for a great deal.

Thoughts???!!!!

Here it is BTW. It's all original and never been opened up. It even sounds great even though it sounds "tired" after all the years and no cap job and such. It just needs the dust wiped off and it will look good as new.

$1600 is a good deal for that amp. get it and go play it

Re: 1963 Fender Super Amp (Brownface)

the $4500 paid was high for a brown Super ... that's more in line with what a tweed Bassman or Twin goes for. As great as a brown Super is, they are just not as valuable on the vintage market.

mind you, I'm not totally up on current prices since I'm not looking to buy or sell

one good way of determining market price, besides researching EBay, is Vintage Guitar's Buyers' Guide. Still, you have to factor in the current economy, and what's really going on out on the street.

LOL @ DLT.

Yeah that $4500 sale threw me way the heck off. I agree that seems steep.
