Played a Peavey JSX and XXX cab

More than fair. After taking Bruce Egnater's amp building class and how power tubes when used and dialed in right... don't realy change the sound all that much. Difference is mostly the impedence mismatch with the transformer and different tubes. If a transformer is meant for certain tubes... won't sound THAT different from other tubes with a power section designed around those. Of course there are differences, but bigger differences happen when you change your strings lol

I love mine. Just recently got a matching cab and I really like the sound of it (JSX speakers kinda live between Greenbacks and V30's but with T75's power rating). The only thing that has been difficult to me is properly dialing in the active EQ. Also, I was using it in the same room with my other guitar player's JVM410, both running thru Marshall 1960 cabs he was drowning me in the mix. I'm sure I was dialing the JSX wrong.

It can take some adjusting to find the optimal setting with the active EQ. The Ultra and Crunch channels share the same triode (V3A) as the active component. As a result there is some interaction between their respective controls, even though the signal is only flowing through other components in one channel or the other.

That's good to know and interesting... I'm gonna play around with that so see what I get.

I got to compare it to my 50 watt Egnater Class amp. The Eggy does the Marshall thing a bit better... comes off a bit more 'aggressive' because of how it's tuned. That being said... I do like that 120 watt power section on the JSX and the low end thump. I can get the JSX to sound very close to it. Just a bit 'wider" and not as refined I would say.

I wouldn't be upset if that's all I had.

cool amp. I have owned a few XXX, just need that much juice any more. I really liked the JSX but never found one when I was looking to buy.

Clean channel is supposed to based on a Bassman IIRC. Crunch channel is fantastic and I love the EQ on these amps

The JSX and XXX amps are both really good, and more similar than different. Everyone goes nuts about the 5150 and 6505 amps, and understandably so, but I like the JSX slightly more.

Depending on the speakers in the XXX can, you might find the JSX a little smoother through a T-75 loaded Marshall cab, not that I expect you to haul one over.
