NAD - Peavey Classic 50 2x12

I have a very soft spot for these amps. My first tube amp I ever bought was a classic 50 2x12 back in 1993. I used this as my only amp for 10 years. I played multiple gigs with it and as mentioned above, there is alot of gain on tap with these. I really abused that thing, especially playing gigs in college at keg parties. Oh the good times..... Im actually in the market for a 50W head.

So a month in - how is it going?

My first real amp was a Peavey classic 212 circa 1978, which lead to my love of Tremolo.

Currently I have a Classic 30.

You can find a foot switch for that on the intarwebz.

I was playing it a couple of days ago and about 30 min in it started crackling. I stopped and checked the amp. I wiggled the reverb connector. It went away but I think I need to crank it to work out the cobwebs.

I ordered the footswitch and it still hasn't arrived. I'll keep y'all posted.

i didnt know the classics went back that far, no joke. theyve been good sounding amps when ive used em, mostly backline stuff which suggests they are build like tanks

The all tube tweed covered Classic line they have today does only date back early 90's. Before that the Classic was one model in their VT or VTX line. The VT/VTX were TransTube preamp with tube power amp. I am remembering they were all covered in the black indestructible stuff. I think there was a one-off all tube tweed covered Blues Classic which took a run at the Fender Bassman and kind of spawned the Classic line of today.

With any used amp, I always start with a good Deoxit cleaning of every connector, jack, pot and switch I can get too without pulling the chassis. Especially a 20+ year old amp. If they have tubes, I get the tube sockets as well.

The other thing is I never buy a used tube amp expecting the power tubes to have any life left in them. Maybe the preamp tubes, but I do not count on them either.
