1966 strat pickups?

is there any aftermarket pickup, that comes close to the strat '66 (maybe '65?)?
they sound completely different to early 60ies pickups. some people call it piano(!?) like
i think they just sound rougher played loud through a twin.

'66 strat pups are pretty low on the turns and use pe wire instead of the formvar

now i'm even more interested. is there a useful aftermarket clone?
i've noticed some who want that tone, go for the fender cs 69 as a cheap
alternative. is this the same construction?

the 69 is probably as close as youll get without spending lots of cash and is probably fairly similar, both are sub 6k dc resistance and 42 pe wire.

I have a couple of 66/67 grey bottoms and it seems like the polepieces are slightly different---narrower? They are rusty, so maybe not the best examples for comparison...but they definitely sound different.

no.

plain enamel is pe - used on old gibson pups and fender teles

poly is used on many modern designs

as far as magnet size, when cbs took over fender in '65 they started making changes. they started using smaller magnets and different wire and dropping the number of turns. an early 60's strat pup might have .195" diameter magnets and 8400 turns of 42 formvar wire, a late 60's strat pup might have .187" diameter magnets and 7600 turns of 42 pe
