60's & early 70's Amperex Holland were best. Late 70's Amperex moved Tooling/Production to Japan. Went downhill after that.

The most desirable ones are the ones with the “Bugle Boy” silk screen
Although I have an “Orange Globe” one that sounds really nice too.

Original NIB/NOS Bugle Boys are prolly the most expensive preamp tube you can get. You also have to be real careful when buying because there are alot of worn out BB's trying to be sold "as new" or really good condition and they're not.

I've got one Bugle Boy; came with my '66 Fender Deluxe:

I'd venture the Telefunken long plate ECC83 (12AX7) is the most expensive; thanks to "audiophools" (audiophiles with their corquesniffery tube stereos)

Thats a 12AT7, your reverb driver. Yes you're right about the Telefunkin. I consider them the same category as BB's. The only NOS im interested in are NOS Blackburn Mullards & Amperex. I have many.

I have one long smooth plate Telefunken but only an Orange Globe Amperex....no Bugle Boy.
I have several Blackburn Mullard’s though. They are amazing!
I probably have about 30-40 NOS tubes in my collection of all types.
I think that the RCA, both black and grey plate versions are great tubes for the money too. I’ve got lots of those too and I think $20-$25 is the most I’ve paid for one of those.

My wife gives me KaKa all the time about buying Vacuum Tubes ... lol.

Re: 1971' NIB Amperex ECC-83/12AX7A

Nothing wrong with JJ’s. The right tube for the amp isn’t always a NOS. I prefer the new production in my Splawn and NOS in the Marshall.

Re: 1971' NIB Amperex ECC-83/12AX7A

I guess they have their own mojo if you have straight to dirty amp set up.

In my own rig it would drive crazy thinking I can't get a same sounding replacement if it burns.

Then again NOS tubes are apparently very robust.

Hell yes.

For example, I have the same set of Valvo-labeled Mullard ECC83s and a CV4004 Mullard (PI) in my Marshall and they're still kicking arse after 15 years.
