1971 Traynor Bassmaster MK II clip with a parts Tele

Taking a new guitar build through one of the best sounding amps I have ever owned. Canada had it right when they built these Traynor monsters, purr to roar and all places in between. This head has been with me for many years, my ashes will likely be scattered in it.

Always fancy a clip from the Kev! Will give a listen later when I can run it through the HD setup.

BUT...what a coinkydink...I saw a traynor bassmate at my local GC today..all black..couple channels, low/hi inputs on each....tag claimed it was a 1966 model..around $350...worth it? Not that I can run that kind of volume, but maybe I could flip it, if it is undervalued by GC?

A Bassmate? I only know them as 3 knobs, but if you see a vintage Traynor for 350.00 POUNCE! If you don't like it, someone else will. Hell, I might even be up for an amp trade if you are inclined.

I saw the GC link, that is a mid/late 70s amp. It is a Bassmaster, I had one and did not love it. Needs some tweaks, but it is a handwired tag board amp, well worth every penny they are asking.

Ahh. I figured something was up. It did not look old enough to be 60s to me. I will pass. Thanks for the FYI.

The amp and geet sounds great as always. My experience with the CV50s tele bridge was the same as yours....great pup.

That's what I'm talking about, Kevlar! Best YBA tones I have heard online, and I'm listening through computer speakers. Has a lot of Hiwatt vibe. I like how it has a tighter and faster response than my 1970 YBA-1, which I think I will sell to buy a YBA-1A.

Have you modded the Traynor?

Toneseeker, pretty sure the only thing I did was put 1 meg volume pots in it and clip the 1000pf bright cap. ( May have put a much lower value in it but would have to open it to see)Been many years. One thing that put a jump on the note in this amp was putting EH 6cA7 tubes in it, many amps I don't like em in, but it was perfect for this head.

Thanks, Kev! Great sounding amp. I had to sell my YBA-1A last year for financial reasons, and I'd really like to get another one. My current circa 1970 YBA-1 breaks up with volume on 2, through low input, SG with Seths not even turned up to 10. I'm looking for some tighter faster response. May trade the amp for a YBA-1A.

Re: 1971 Traynor Bassmaster MK II clip with a parts Tele

I would make sure you have 1 meg volume pots and clip or lower the bright cap on it, 1 meg will take a lot of sponginess out of it. That may be all you need.

Gettin' mine back form my tech soon. YBA-1a MKII. The tech is basically only going to install Dale/Vishay ( Marshall type) resistors on the screens, and maybe install a second fuse where the old ground lift switch/deathcap was. That and change a couple resistor values to more closely approximate the JTM/Bassman thing.
I know there are dyed in the wool Traynor lovers out there who swear by them even over old Superleads and even Plexis , but I fully expect to be less than overwhelmed.
Much love for the Traynors, but IMHO, a Marshall, they are not.

Traynors are generally great. I regret selling my YGM-III. It was every bit as good as a Deluxe Reverb, and they've tripled in value since. D'oh!

Re: 1971 Traynor Bassmaster MK II clip with a parts Tele

Not a Marshall out there I would trade my Traynor for, tone wise. It is dialed in exactly where I like it to be. Same with my old Carlsbro heads.
