1973 CTS 15" Driver - Can you guys provide any information on this??

Any help is greatly appreciated;
This is for sale near me and I'm thinking of picking it up as I have a 1x15 cab that I plan on using for guitar. Info on these speakers seems sparse but people seem to have mixed opinions. I'd love to know what kind of power handling I could expect from this before I commit to the purchase, and wether people think it would sound okay for guitar. I mainly use an Ampeg V2 for stoner rock and cleaner early psychedelic rock.

welcome to the forum!

cts made a variety of different speakers without a little more info its hard to say. from looking at it... its a big magnet, ribbed cone, with what looks like a small aluminum dust cap. might sound pretty good for guitar. impedance and power handling are impossible to tell from the pic, at least for me.

Sunn used 15" CTS drivers, similar in appearance to your speaker, in some of their bass cabs Maybe in guitar cabs as well (I know they used 15" JBL in some guitar cabs). Of course, that doesn't mean what you have is an old speaker made for Sunn Amps. CTS made a lot of speakers like Jeremy states. If you already have a cabinet to house it, and you can get a good deal on the speaker, give it a shot. As long as you don't overpay, you should be able to flip it if it doesn't work out.
