There's this guy, um, I think his name is Mathias Jabs. I'm pretty sure he shreds on an explorer - so it's really your preference and not the gutiar! And the SuperD's will work just fine for that too.
But if it's classic rockin' you are interested in I'd say go PG's.

I had an 85 with Dirty Fingers in it, and that one sounded real good. I am not a shredder by any means but it had a great hard rock sound. Perhaps a little dark played clean, but from the original post, I'd say cleans are not really what he's after.
