Selling my 77-79 Yamaha SG-500, with a non-original Access hard case. Made somewhere between 1977 and 1979, not 100% sure.
These are pretty rare. Great Made in Japan Yamaha guitars, as amazing quality as all 70's Yamaha SG's, just for a bit less than the more Blinged out Models.
Basically like a late 70's Japanese Made Yamaha SG-1000, without as much Fancy bling. Main differences being, Asian Mahogany Body instead of Standard Mahogany (still standard Mahogany neck though), less fancy bindings, and the Inlays are Synthetic Pearl, rather than real pearl like on the 1000-3000 models.
The SG is mostly original as far as I can tell. Knobs maybe replacements, though I'm not sure. And pickups have been swapped (originals will be included in case though).
Pickups have been swapped for Gibson 57 classics(I can install originals before shipping and keep the 57 classics for $50 less).
Neck Pickup Volume Pot has been replaced.
Plays great, has a nice neck, Not too slim, but not to beefy either.
Very little Fret wear, minimal amounts in the cowboy chord area.
Cosmetically pretty good, A few scuffs and scratches here and there. A few dings, and a bit of buckle rash on the back. But over all, very good for a 40 year old guitar.
Neck is nice and straight. And can be setup with Nice low buzz free action.
Original Tuners function as they should, and turn smoothly.
Beautifully cut nut (not sure if original). With excellent tuning stability.
Pickup selector functions as it should, But does feel a bit loose. But should be great with a re-tensioning.
Included case is non-original, But a very nice Access Brand hardshell case.
Includes Original Yamaha Owners manual.
Neck Measurements
1 & 11/16" nut width
1st fret depth 0.79"
12th fret depth 0.97"
Asking $700 + Shipping
Trade (or partial trade) interests
BF or (early) SF vibro-champ
SF Princeton or Princeton Reverb
Fender Concert II head (Rivera era)
Roland TR-8s or TR-08
70's Musicman 212RH cab (local only)
Gibson ES-320, ES-325, ES-135
Novak WRHB'S for jazzmaster
EHX Micro POG (or nano pog, or similar)
An MJT or other Roadworn Jazzmaster, Tele thinline or normal Tele
Might be interested in other stuff. Just PM me and ask.
Other than that I just need money.
Any questions, or if you'd like pics of something I haven't covered, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for looking.
