198? SD 100w Convertible Head - Hums Like An ElectCo Transformer

Any old school amp folk out there? I've had this head to a number of shops to try to fix the beastly hum, but no one seems to be able to diagnose what component is making all the racket. Recording with this amp is impossible and live performance has been problematic for decades. Are these amps just poorly designed so when the components combine - they hum? Anyone have any ideas? (I'm only moderately handy with electronics.)

Can you share any more details? Did you buy this new or used?
