What do you know about them? How's the neck? Slim or fat? How's the Bennder "Floyd Rose" tremolo on it?

A guy on Craigslist is selling one, and I very tempted to but it from him....

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Epi V is a good thing all around. Thin necks usually.

Floyd? Not familiar...

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Cool. Yea it has a Bennder tremolo. Never heard of the brand "BENNDER". If not any good, I got an extra Floyd lying around I could put on it. It's also has offset dot inlays. Looks pretty cool. It's also discontinued. Only came out in '89. So Epi V are good all around then? I always wanted a V and now looks like my chance to finally get one.

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

make sure if you go check it out to strap it on, i played an epi v once, and it did the ol' neck dive shuffle. why cant some companies get this right.

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Not to sound like a noob...... But what's the ol' neck dive shuffle?

Neck heavy, so it's dipping towards the headstock if you got it strapped on and release your grip.
Same dealy with the Epi Explorer. Great guitar over all, but you gotta keep a hand on the neck if you don't want it to spin like in a ZZ Top video. :P

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

I have a couple Epi '58 V's, the necks are relatively full, not thin. I really like them. Well made. Sound great with a variety of PU's.

Unless you're doing all kinds of things when a guitar is strapped on you, like ironing clothes or tossing pizza dough, neck dives are a non-issue. :cool2:

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Neck-heaviness is a preference thing. Personally, I can't handle more than a little bit. I had an otherwise-fantastic 82 Mockingbird that I eventually sold for that reason...

...but he's not talking about a 58 RI. I remember the ones he's talking about and the similarity to yours ends at the shape being roughly the same.

It doesn't look like that'll be a problem, however, judging by the top button not being visible, meaning it's probably on the back of the heel. You know, where Gibson SHOULD have put it on all the Vs and Explorers.

Cool lookin geet, imho, depending on what he wants for it.

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

I prefer a neck that isn't neck heavy, but if it is, I probably could deal with it.
Dude Blueman! How'd you know I toss pizza when I'm playing guitar?!?!?!? Wow?! Hahaha

It is a cool geetar. Pretty much my dream guitar. And then it comes with a "Floyd"?!?! Bonus! But I'll probably change it to a better one I have.

I really want this! It's funny though, the number on the post is the wife's. but the husband has it and she said he'll text me but still hasn't?!?! Patience. Running. Out. Must. Talk. To. Him!!!!!! Gah! Hehehe I could talk to the wifey more though..... She seems to reply back faster!

Actually, the biggest difference is the whammy bar (and a different-shaped pick guard!); the rest is pretty similar. I'd doubt they'd redesign or re-spec anything between models that absolutely didn't need to be changed. Why add to the expense?

Because between that and the 58 they decided they wanted something that was at least spec'd to LOOK like a 58. There's a world of difference between 1989 and 2012 (or 96 like I think the 58 was introduced within...). Henry went from wanting to sell quality to wanting to sell facsimiles to dumbasses willing to buy the hype based on name and appearance.

They still haven't gotten the 67 right but that may be a blessing.

Finally got in touch with the guy selling the V. I'm gonna pick it up later today!!!!!!!! I'll post some pics of it when I get it.

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Here it is!!!! It needs a bit of some love. But overall it's great! It's got a SD pickup in it. Not sure which one, but it sounds niiiiiiiiiiccee.

Re: 1989 Epiphone Flying V

Cool, man! Glad to hear it's working out for you. Had the covers off and checked out the body wood? That thing is screaming for a Kahler Spyder.
