1991 Strat...

Re: 1991 Strat...

I am trying to find out if the Fender which is an American Standard, if it's a deluxe, or is the neck maple or rosewood. I am not a guitar player, I gothis for my brother but I want to find exactly what is and what materials were used in production.

Thanks for any info or opinions...

Re: 1991 Strat...

It looks to be an American Standard , that is not a Deluxe. It was made in 1991-1992 in Corona CA , The neck is Maple and that is a Walnut skunk stripe on it , fretboard is Rosewood. Body is most likely Alder or Ash looks to be in decent shape , people pay anywhere from $400 to $800 for the most part. Also looks like it is original condition , a good gift for your brother that is a nice piece ,nothing wrong with it at all.

And if he don't want it, I'll be happy to be your brother for a couple days.. and I'm not even a lefty

Re: 1991 Strat...

One thing that some might consider "wrong" with that specific guitar is that somebody has restrung it for right-handed, upside-down playing without resetting the intonation at the bridge. It would be interesting to learn what has been done about the string slots in the top nut.

Re: 1991 Strat...

If your brother is a lefty, you may need to replace the nut...like Funkfingers said, it's been strung up for a right handed player. The nut has most likely been filed to fit the bass strings in the treble string slots. If you don't replace the nut you will probably get some buzzing and/or muting of the high strings when you restring it for a lefty.
