1st Gen. Duncan Little '59 pickups

Hey all !!! I just picked up a used Strat that has an older Duncan Little'59 in the bridge.
These have the wires coming out of one end of the pickup instead of in the middle, as the present ones do.
Probably a dumb question, but, loading it in a Strat (bridge position) which way should the pickups wires face?
Down toward the pots or the other direction, or does it even matter??? LOL

Anyone here familiar with these ?

Thanks !!!

It only matters (a tiny bit) if you split the pup. If wires exit towards the pots, then shorting red/white to ground will give you the "inside" coil closest to the neck.

Thanks. And I was going to do a coil split. ( your post solidified my idea that the pickup wires should face the pots).
After doing the coil split, I did get a little bit of quack out of position 2, but not near what I was hoping for.
So, is it the Little '59 or the Custom Shop '69 middle pickup that is causing this non- quack? LOL
Back to the drawing board. LOL
