1x12 amp recommendations

So I'm looking for a new 1x12 amp and would like some recommendations. My uses would be smallish venues/bars and home practice. I want something with a little bit of a different voicing(preferably a nice British tone) than my twin reverb but I want to be able to get an ok fenderish sound. Versatility is pretty much what I need. I don't care too much about a drive channel because I play mainly clean-edge of breakup and use pedals for any drive. A nice overdrive sound would be a plus but it wouldn't really make or break the amp for me. All in all I just want a nice 1x12 combo that is very versatile. My price range is no more than 1000. I'd like to spend 500-800 though.

Tiny terror combo. Adjust your guitar volume and or drop a 5751 tube in v1. They are British in tone but not exactly Marshall or vox. They have great overdrive. Not ear bleeding loud but loud enough to get light breakup at bar I think. Nice tones at home too. Birch ply cab with a g12h30.
Perhaps it won't have much in common with your fender tone but give it a try you might find it refreshingly different.
Some say it's not clean enough. I like a little breakup. You could swap in a v30 which is a louder speaker.
Also you could try a Fender Drri and swap in a British speaker like a greenback (I owned one where I did that) and it's more fender than British but then you could just use any plexi flavored pedal with the gain rolled off to get you the rest of the way.
Oh and I can't believe I forgot. DSL40C green channel. That will do the trick with no problems I can think of other than the fact that they come in kinda a crap cabinet. But the headroom is there and the light breakup is there too. More fender like than the Orange. The dsl green channel is delicious.

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

I've been thinking about a 1x12 combo recently and doing some online research. The two I keep coming back to are the Peavey Classic 30 and the Blackstar HT-40.

Look at a Blackstar HT40 or HT20 combo they are right up your alley for what you want.

Another vote for blackstar. 20 watts is plenty of juice for a bar gig. However, no offense, but your desire for both a brit and fender sound from the same amp is contradictory. If you really want that look into an amp modeler. The blackstar fender type clean is OK not dazzling but the brit sounds are gorgeous.

Both are great but different. The peavey does a solid fender sound at a great price. Blackstar nails marshall, mesa, vox type tones.
With the marshall and vox being the best. Both take pedals great. Cannot remember about the peavey, but the blackstar has reverb, fx loop and a wonderful emulated output for direct recording or going to a pa. Either way, you win and spent your money on good sound rather than paying for a big name.

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

Thanks a lot guys! I was looking at the blackstar so that is nice to have reassurance for that amp. I will check out the peavy as well and the other amps you all recommended. Anybody know anything about the egnator tweaker?

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

People like the Tweaker but arent hot on the Rebel...or is it the other way around?
Jet City amps are bretty gud. Carvin X60s are nice used as are the MTS series. The Carvin Nomad does a Fender clean and a Marshallish gain.

Yes, it sits between the two. Does nothing great and nothing awful. You will need pedals to bring it alive. No reverb, too.

My Belair is the same circuit as the Nomad
The clean is better I think than Fenders
The drive channel is more diode clipping like a good dirt pedal than Marshall
But I have read of some mods that will get closer to Marshall But just not of of the box

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

I recently got the Carvin Nomad. Well built amp with great tone.

In the process of deciding on the Cravin, I also liked the Marshall DSL40 and the Blackstar HT40

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

Great amp...but he wants fenderish cleans. Tis the opposite.

Actually, he said he was looking for

a little bit of a different voicing(preferably a nice British tone) than my twin reverb but I want to be able to get an ok fenderish sound.

The DSL certainly qualifies for a "nice British tone" (even though it is made in Vietnam), and it can be made to sound as close to "Fenderish" as a classic 30. I own both amps.

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

Peavey Classic 30 vote here.

Great clean, great edge of breakup, roars with pedal of choice.

Re: 1x12 amp recommendations

Roland Jazz Chorus. Versatile as it gets, takes pedals like a champ

Heck yeah it does. Love the dsl. I have one. Its clean is great but not fenderish in the slightest. Marshall is another type of tone.
