1x12 vs 2x12

It's not a volume issue is it between the two, rather the 2x12 produces a better, fuller tone than the 1x12?

Would you ever choose a 1x12 over a 2x12?

Re: 1x12 vs 2x12

My experience is just as you said- For example over the years I used 2 very similar clean yamahas ss- The G112 and the G212-

Neither was better than the other, but just as you would guess I used the 112 in little clubs and the 212 for bigger venues- Now that I think of it, thicker isn't the word I would use, but the 212 just seemed bigger-

should have recorded them sideby side- Really great clean SS amps and did a perfect job acting as foils for a marshal plexi 50

Re: 1x12 vs 2x12

All else being equal, the 2x12 will actually be a tad bit louder.

I think maybe the "fuller" sound that you hear is because the setup is a little more efficient with two speakers as opposed to two.

Portability is a major factor for 1x12 over 2x12, but if you're playing a larger gig, especially with a poor PA, you'll be glad you had that extra speaker.

Re: 1x12 vs 2x12

a tad louder, yes, but hardly noticable given the same power. What you'll notice is just as zionstrat said... bigger. 2x12 will have a fuller sound. Given the power remains the same, the same speakers in a 2x12 will be cleaner than 1x12 as well, since the speakers will not break up at the same volume levels.

Re: 1x12 vs 2x12

theoretically it aint louder, but your amp is moving the SAME power over twice the area so you'll get better dispersion.

Re: 1x12 vs 2x12

If I remember, adding a second speaker adds 6dB of boost, so it'll be that much louder. The only reason I'd get a 2x12 over a 1x12 is that you could have two different speakers...and you can crank it louder w/o blowing it.

Well, you were almost right, the laws of physics state that it will be a 3db increase in level, just because of the coupling of the two speakers, btw 3db is just about what the human ear can perceive a noticable difference in volume.
