NGD: 2 Custom 1x12 Guitar Cabs

Yeah, I would only make adjustments or remove panels at soundcheck. I'd never do it after sound check. Everything needs to be consistent after the sound check whenever possible. But, I will have a screwdriver handy for soundcheck and go from there with regards to open-back or closed options.

My 2x12 is a closed back and provides plenty of low end. The two 1x12s, although powered by a different amp, are flexible in the open-back/closed equation, which is a nice option to have IMO.

for me, i dont think id do it. placement of top or bottom, and which cab gets the mic, would be sorted out at sound check. most festival sets i play are 75 or 90 minutes straight, no time to futz with the rig
That is what I said. Something you could adjust at sound check

I feel like either I'm not communicating clearly

Nope its right there, I said it

I will say that festival soundchecks (unless you are the first band) are laughable. You can be considered lucky if you have time to plug everything in.

Same with battle of the band events. I remember a couple back in '05. One was at a large college campus where we arrived several hours before since our drummer was a student there. We got an early soundcheck in, had a great set, and won.

Many of the bands who arrived later did not get soundchecks.

Later on that autumn, we had a battle of the bands night at a huge bar. There wasn't much of a chance to do soundchecks because the bar was hoppin' that night. Don't want to annoy the crowd.

We still had a good set, but we took second place. We were bummed because the winner got decent bank, but more importantly, they got to become the house band. The band who won had a killer set, so kudos to them to this day.

By that time, going without a soundcheck was pretty easy for us as a band. I'd hate to have to go through that in the early days of a group or on a step-in kind of night though. That's tough.
