2x12 cabs can be as wide as 4x12 cabs, so they make a cool alternative. My 4x10 is fairly wide, so most heads still fit on it.

here's a potentially goofy idea that's been rattling around in my head: a 2x10" cab split in two so that 1 speaker is in a open-backed box and the other is a closed cab. My thought was to get the tight bass of a closed cab with a smaller speaker, but still have that room-filling vibe of an open back.

Any thoughts?

I built a 1x12 and a 2x10 years ago ... really professional job. I put EVM12L in the 1x12 and still have it ... it's nice. I sold the 2x10 years ago and wish I still had it. I put 2 10" JBLs (back when they made guitar speakers). It was a bit bright ... but I really wish I could try it now. But I've not found anyone making a 2x10 extension cabinet that is not for bass. If anyone has seen one, I'd like to check it out.

that would be a cool 2x10 idea: open and closed. or maybe an open 10 side with a closed 12 side. ahhhh! the options are endless I guess...

There are some cabs at Avatar which give the option of removable back panels. It would give you the ability to change between closed, open, and partial, but at different times.

is there an efficient 210 cab?
best 10" speakers i have seen so far have a sensibility of 96dB 1W/1m.

even if you take two of them, they can't mess with a vintage 30 for example,
which would be around 102dB 1W/1m

i know, that i'm the one hwo asked for good smaller speakers in a previous
thread, but since i am aware of the great efficiency of some 12" speakers,
i'd rather choose a 112 instead of 210 ..
and a 212 instead of a 410.
the usage of a 410 can only be a matter of special sound (eg bassman)

The Eminence Ragin Cajun and RamRod speakers are 10" speakers with 100dB sensitivity. The difference from 102dB should not be noticeable.

Ear Candy makes a 2x10 called the Sweet Tooth.

Laney makes a 2x10 cab.
Roland have a smaller Jazz Chorus version with a 2x10 cab. Bot the best amp in the world though.

Mine was 2x10 sealed cabinet. You guys have links to any of these oriducts mentioned above? Seems like I;ve looked at Avatar and I don't remember any 2x10 guitar cabs ... I remember bass 2x10 with high end tweeter.

Man, the bass player in my band recently picked up an 8x10" cabinet from Ampeg. It's a monster!

I agree, I have heard a few of these and they sound awsome. :bigok:

I've seen a lot of local bands in Las Vegas snatch those Ampeg 8x10 cabs up.
