2 conductor vs 4 conductor same pup?

Just wondering if there is any tonal difference between a 2 conductor version of a BBQ or other pickup versus the same pickup with 4 conductor wiring. I would think that any signal going to more wires would decrease tone or gain? Not sure so I ask you.

I'm sure that this is another matter that on paper, yes there's a difference, but is that difference audible? Probably not.
