2 new recordings from my band

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

pretty cool man, not too fond of the St Anger snares on Displaced Of Kindness, though.

BTW, when you click Liberated, Displaced Of Kindness plays :p

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

very good stuff drucifer... Displaced of Kindness has a 'Soundgarden meets Black Sabbath' vibe to it in the beginning and during the slower parts, but it picks up nice and fast into some early Metallica sounding speed riffs. I like the uniqueness of your band's style. I'm loving it! Nice solos :) :cool3:

BTW, what's your equipment setup?

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

St. Anger snare? C'mon now, it ain't that bad! :9:

I fixed the links. Also, I just uploaded remixed versions of 'A New Beginning' as well as 'Displaced of Kindness'. Not enough content in the originals in the 3K range for my liking.

The guitars on 'Liberated' and 'Already Dead' were done with an alder flying v with an EMG 85 in the bridge positions. The guitars on 'A New Beginning' were recorded with a Washburn KC40V (alder-bodied super strat w/floyd) with a Duncan Distortion in the bridge position. The guitars on 'Displaced of Kindness' were recorded with an Electra Endorser (alder body, similar to an LP in design), also with a Duncan Distortion in the bridge.

All guitars on all 4 songs were routed through a Boss SD-1, into the high input of a Laney AOR 100MV (single-channel), with a Boss GE-7 in the loop. The cab is a 5150 straight.

On 'A New Beginning' an SM57 was aimed about halfway between the dust cap and the edge of the cone. For all other songs, the mic was aimed at the edge of the dust cap. Also, for all songs, the guitar mic was plugged into the sound card of my computer.

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

I've been jamming on these ever since you sent them to me last night:headbang:

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

I hope to christ not. As always, goooood sh!t man!!! I love it, love the tone too!

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

Dude, "Already Dead" is hot! The solo on that song's pretty nice in a Slayer-esque way.

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

I think this rocks and needs a bump. Listen up and give it up for Dru!! I've been jammin on these for almost 2 weeks now and they rock!!!

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

hey, Ive listened to some of your band's earlier tracks. I thought the liberated rythym parts concerning guitars were great - drums complement things well. I liked the triplet chugs - kinda has that meathead chunk I like in metal.

the breakdown (middle of song) could use some rythym guitars (sounds empty to me). I am kinda jealous that the vocalist has so much aggression (I was doing a similar style, now my voice is shot, ENT says no nodes though) so I am working back up my voice by low volume vocalisations. It would be interesting to see what the vocalist had to say about how he gets his aggressive delivery so convincing.

That's Dru singing as well as playing all the guitars. I love Dru's delivery on vocals. I think he get's his delivery on just being an angry young/older man. Honestly, and I ain't tryin to blow smoke up Dru's rear, but he's got some of the best vocals I've heard in years. They have a true passionate side to them. You can tell he's not singing for anyone but the song and himself. That's why I love and respect them. I totally love the way he fluctuates his notes on screams. I ain't sayin all that crap cause I consider Dru a friend either. I call it the way it is. I've told him just as well when I thought he could do better with my constructive criticism. I personally don't think Dru's gotten the recognition he deserves around here on his guitar playing, singing style, and/or song writing ability.......just my opinion.

So Dru, any pointers on singing aggressive?

I have been mellowing out lately, I just weightlift more; so I won't be singing so aggressive in the future (my voice is currently shot from singing aggressively). Anyways, any advice (i.e. using a humidifier at night, drinking alot of fluids before singing, warming up throughout the day...)?

Does it feel like you have a sore throat throughout the day after singing (& maybe onto the next day)?

Thanks for any (possible) response.

Re: 2 new recordings from my band

Wow, thanks guys! I'm glad to have entertained you at least a little. The drums, as well as a scratch guitar track, were recorded on a Fostex cassette 4-track. Those were then transferred to PC. Final guitar tracks, as well as bass and vocals were recorded directly to PC. The amp is a Laney AOR 100, boosted by an SD-1, with a GE-7 in the loop. I love this thing, it really kicks me in the balls.

As far as vocals go, there aren't any tricks or shortcuts. It's pretty much "what-you-hear-is-what-you've-got". The best way to improve any skill is: practice. Fortunately, you don't have to lug around a head-and-cab to practice vocals. I've found one of my favorite places to practice is in the car, mostly to and from work.

Thank you, thank you!

For what it's worth, I'd toyed with calling the song 'Lubricated', but that title didn't seem to fit with the theme of the song.
