2 x '59's in strat?

I have been looking into making my own warmoth strat, with 2 x humbuckers (ash body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard), I have an LP studio and like the sound, although strats are way more comfortable to play (for me at least).

I was thinking a set of '59's, just need a second opinion, I play mostly rock/punk/metal type music, am I right in thinking that these will give a nice relaxed open warm sound that is versatile?

Be gentle with me, I'm a newbie :)

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

I'd like to know too. I've been considering a pair of '59s for a dual hum Tele copy.

I have a '59n in a Les Paul and love it, but I've never tried it in Fender-style guitar. I've also never tried a '59b.

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

well, for blues that would sound sweet. for hard rock and punk, though, i dont think dual 59's are the way to go.

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

I see what you mean about musical styles, but my band mate plays an ibanez rg something-or-other, and i dont want our seperate guitar parts to sound like one guitar playing mush (I hope people actually understand that), I have to admit, I'm not exactly a gain junkie, I like fairly trad sounds, mind you the fender big apple start had PG's didn't it?, might be worth a go?

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

oh, by the way, when I say punk, I don't mean pop punk, i mean old school style punk, clash, jam, sex pistols and as for metal stuff, i can live with having to change the eq...

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

I think a pair of 59's in a Strat (59N & 59B Trembucker) would sound killer for just about any style. I have a single 59 TB in my alder bodied Strat...it sounds as good as any guitar I own, including my Les Paul with Holmes humbuckers. Great Clapton with Cream and EVH tone when played through a cranked Marshall or 59 tweed Bassman (the amp the Marshall is based on). Lew

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

Everybody I talk to on this board says 59s can do anything, but a pretty standard hard rock pickup is the JB, which is used by the likes of Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Green Day, and probably a ton more...

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

UMm i believe the older double fat starts which fender stopped making had a 59 humbucker in the enck and its pearly gates plus bridge pick up was very close in specs to the 59 bridge humbucker i belive. So yes it would be a good combo in a strat for sure!

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

Yes 2 59s work well in a strat. For the bands you mentioned, definitely.
My friend has a 59/jazz combo in a strat and it has lots of personality, clean or dirty. I had a 59/59 combo in a tele for a while and I liked that too, but I like the 59b in a strat even more.

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

And I would suggest the trembucker for the bridge position in any real Fender Strat...hardtail or otherwise. Lew

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

personally, i think a jb or a jazz might work better....

but that could just be my opinion

Re: 2 x '59's in strat?

The other main combo i was considering was maybe a jb & a jazz, maybe i'll just build two guitars, no doubt they'll both sound good.

Thanks for all the advice all
