20 Random Seymour W. Duncan Facts

Re: 20 Random Seymour W. Duncan Facts

How about a 5/8? That would boost the high strings and keep the snap that the A5 has.

Interesting thought actually... sadly ive never seen A8 rod mags... I think if it was me i would go for 8\2 would be a traditional single coil sound at all... but give some beef and push to the lows with pulled back soft highs.

As for the direction, we're as committed as ever to providing both innovative new products as well as going after those that help capture a sound that people are still looking for. Providing the highest quality in our materials, giving you a great customer service experience - none of those things have changed. Seymour has always been the guiding light especially for vintage style stuff because he has always been no compromise when it comes to the way (and materials) that many of those are built with and that'll never change.

Not trying to stir the pot here Scott and Evan, but as a customer of four years who has received some of the very best customer service from S.D. in the past, the customer service I have received in the last year has been inexcusably terrible! I even attempted to complain and was misdirected which came off as intentional by the lady who answered the phone. If this was my first few experience with S.D. it may have earnestly affected my desire to buy the product. I won't go into details here about what frustrated me, but would be happy to discuss it with either of you if you wish to pm me. I know I am just another customer guys, but I can honestly say:

Seymour just loves to create pickups, I don't think you'd ever have found to him care about the spotlight. As for Q&A, I don't think I've ever seen him on a forum and he might be totally unfamiliar with them. He's done Q&As through a ton of other mediums. But I'll take the feedback we need a forum Q&A.

Before your time , were they ?

Disappoint.

After reading those few posts, it's clear that forums are not his thing, and it's probably for the best, tbh.

If we could post questions (hopefully pertaining to pickups, specifically) and perhaps have 10 to 20 of them chosen at random, and then get a staffer to relay the questions and record the answers, that would be awesome. It would be like an interview, but we'd get to think up the questions, instead of some guy at Guitar World.

Sure buddy, will PM you.

Golden: Yes, but I do know Cathy reads the forums. Seymour spends plenty of time on Facebook though but I'm happy to ask him for another Q&A if you guys want.

Re: 20 Random Seymour W. Duncan Facts

I want to be fair here and say that both Evan and Scott did PM so we could discuss grievances. Respect.

Re: 20 Random Seymour W. Duncan Facts

Here's a collection of twenty random observations & facts about Seymour Duncan (the man) I've learned over the years. Feel free to add yours!

1) Originally from New Jersey
2) Worked at the Fender Soundhouse for some amazing guitarists
3) Just about any conversation with Seymour somehow involves the Yardbirds.
4) If you ask him 'What is tone?' prepare to get the most amazing 30 minute answer that goes into every minute detail of a guitar, signal and delves into the philosophical and physics.
5) Will never say anything bad about anybody, ever.
6) Even if you haven't seen him in 10 years, upon seeing him again he will call to you by name and by some miracle of memory will then ask how your wife and children are doing by name.
7) Loves to collect arrowheads and Firefighting helmets.
8) Big Danny Gatton fan
9) Has jammed on stage with Yngwie & Slash
10) Has several signature styles to his playing, which include a sort of chickin' pickin and bending the string behind the nut.
11) Loves his TeleGibs: http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/seymour-w-duncan/my-new-cherry-red-tele-gib/
12) Was devastated as a child when his parents bought him an accordion instead of a Silvertone
13) Seems to know everyone who was involved in the '60s and '70s music scene and how they all relate with each other.
14) Owns the original Gibson PAF that Seth Lover created
15) Likes to take nature pictures
16) Hung out with Jimi Hendrix and wound pickups for him on several occasions.
17) Takes meticulous notes
18) Has a jar in his office filled with 30 year old pickle juice, with a pickup submerged and signatures from him and Billy Gibbons testing over the years.
19) When it comes to pickups & guitar construction, he's a never ending encyclopedia.
20) Rewound his first pickup on a record player as a result of an accidental wire break from lending his guitar to a friend.

I have never talked to Seymour but the more I learn the more I like him.

#25 Seymour and Larry DiMarzio actually know each other and have discussed product lines at NAMM shows...
