Re: 2001 gibson LP special tuners SUCK!
I have a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special and the factory Gibson Deluxe Machine Heads, the Low E and A ones, on recent string change the Low E and A string pegs are wobbly (2 of 6 of them), and they slip out of tune no matter how you wind the strings or set up the guitar, I've tried everything, the head where you put the string through came completely loose and possibly broke?! Replace these tuners immediately! I don't know why anyone would want to proactively put these on their guitar. These come stock on pretty much every Gibson I think, love the guitar but these tuners are the absolute worst! I wouldn't recommend these to anyone at any price.
I almost forgot that probably over a year ago or so, I had bought a brand new set of Grover 135N Deluxe tuners and just found them. I purchased these as an upgrade for the cheap tuners that came with my 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special. I've read that there is a difference in the sound, playability, and intonation is this true? I was also reading that the stock Gibson Deluxe tuners are slightly smaller than these, so you have to slightly enlarge the holes?
