2003 Fender factory color sample AV '52 Reissue in black lacquer finish. Exceedingly rare, non-production Telecaster. Stamped "T" in bridge pickup rout, presumably for "test". This model was not available in black when this was made (and hasn't been for a long time). This guitar was the Grand Prize in fundraiser giveaway on a well-known, international guitar website that year. Near mint condition. Includes tweed case, letter from FMIC. A documented one-of-a-kind production sample from Fender! $1799.

Another cool, collectible Tele. In last couple of weeks I sold rare 52 RIs and Nocasters to folks at Bogner Amplification and MESA/Boogie. PayPal or USPS Money Order. Guitar ships FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery. Pick up in the Los Angeles area can be arranged.

Do you have any sources for the T meaning the model is a test or prototype guitar?

In reference to the T stamp I wrote "presumably." It makes sense and is the consensus opinion (supported by comments from folks at Fender).

The guitar is not a prototype. The guitar was a color test. A one-off color sample. Fender has not produced the AV 52 RI in black for many years, and not in this decade. It was furnished by Richard McDonald, Vice President. FMIC as the grand prize for the 2003 TDPRI fundraiser. The accompanying document includes a note from Chris Gill, Product Manager, FMIC stating that it is "a color sample sent over to Scottsdale from Manufacturing" at Corona, CA.
