2005 Jackson RR3 or Zack Wylde epiphone?

I'm thinking of trading my RR3 equiped with duncan designed pups for an Epiphone Zakk Wylde model with EMG HZs. Should I go for that deal? It's a straight swap deal for the Epiphone and I'm wondering if it's ok. The things I'm considering are the tone, quality and comfort. I hope you guys can give some feedback if ever you own these guitars or have tried them. thanks.:smack:

I dunno bro. That Jackson is pretty sick. I love LP's, and I prefer them in the long run to guitars of Jackson's ilk, but that's a tough call. I'll leave advice to the people who have more developed opinions. I think both are pretty sick though.

I only have proper experience with the Epiphone ZW LP, and I can tell you it really is an awesome axe. The pickups really are sweet, they give super-scortching harmonics, and I love the feel of the neck. Those Epiphones are pretty well made, and if you can play one before, and like the feel, the I say go for it.

I have briefly played the RR3, and the owner kept it in pretty bad condition. I also never played it plugged in, so I really can't comment on it properly. It seemed like it had potential, but I would have prefered to have heard it properly.

I've owned an RR3 for about a year and I've also tried a ZW. THe RR#, at least mine, sounded like crap to me. The Zakk Wylde though, sounds pretty sweet. The EMG HZ's are very nice pickups. Overall I'd trade an RR# in for the Epiphone anyday, but my only complaint on the ZW was that I had a hard time reaching the upper frets(18-22). Maybe its like that on all singlecut Les Pauls, I have a double cut.

I've played both a lot and can say the the LP with give you a lot more good sounds than that RR.

Which one sounds better and plays better for you?

Thats the one to keep/get.

yah, I'll probably go out and check the LP tom, thanks for the help, i'll update about it as soon as I try the Epiphone. The only prob I have with the RR3 is that it's not very enticing to practice with, hehe, my left arm tends to get tired easily when I'm sitting down since you have to hold it like a classical guitar. hehehe

Re: 2005 Jackson RR3 or Zack Wylde epiphone?

i tried the zakk wylde and it was ok..but here's the catch..the RR3 i have right now is second hand because i bought it in ebay last year (may 2005 so technically it will be a third hand guitar if ever there's such a thing, it was even returned to jackson for refurnishing before i got it so there's an embedded "used" logo behind the headstock). the zakk wylde i'm going to get is nearly brand new (a few months old). do you think i should still go for it? i really don't have the funds for a new guitar right now and i'll probably get a new one in a few years or so... i'm in a complete dilemma hahaha

Jackson doesn´t refinish damaged imports but scraps them, and the "Used" logo is something very commonly seen on Music GoRound (or was it Music123?) instruments... BTW, the Used stamp has been publicly addressed by JCMI as "a practice that we do not approve of", so it´s highly unlikely at best that that stamp was from the factory....

Something tells me that either the eBay seller was a Music GoRound (highly possible) and/or or was BSing /uninformed about the true "rank of ownership" (just as possible) ;)
