Ok so I am going to pick up a 2006 MIM tele. Since I know nothing of the Tele (never played one never saw a lefty...) I obviously know nada bout the pickups. so instead of me asking the open ended question which SD's to put in this babe I will get sneaky and pretend I am taking a poll.

Which SD for a 2006 MIM tele? Or are the stock pickup all that? (a silly question for this board I know). Ok lets see what combo wins. 123 goooooooo.

Ok got the MIM tele now the poll begins for real as I am gonna be a Seymour snob and get the pickups upgraded.

Re: 2006 MIM tele pups replacement poll.

I like the upgraded stock pickups myself. If I was to snag one of those myself, I'd be leaving them as-is for a while.

However, since I'm making one at some point, The Hot Rhythm is a candidate as well as the Jerry Donahue, Hot Lead and Quarter Pounder.

yeah, I recommend you play a new guitar for a while to get a good idea of what you want, then ask the same question

I think wood and weight tend to affect the overall tone of individual guitars

in the end though, any of the vintage style SDs are good candidates, including the Antiquities, it just depends on what flavor tele you're aiming for :)

Re: 2006 MIM tele pups replacement poll.

I play a new guitar for as long as possible, both plugged in and unplugged, before I decide on replacement pickups. Since you'll have to undo the setup on a Tele when you replace the pickups, I'd recommend that you play it until you can't stand the factory setup any longer, and then swap pickups if you still feel the need.

As far as replacements go, I like the Antiquity I flatpole set, the JD and 5/2 leads, and the STL-2 Hot lead from SD. You might also consider the Fender CS Nocaster set.

Re: 2006 MIM tele pups replacement poll.

The stock pickups on MiM's are fantastic for what they are intended to do.

Unless you're a complete snob, leave it stock.
