supposedly my les paul is all mahogany, no cap, and no chambering or weight relief. She is flawless in her craftsmanship and rings out like a bell when played acoustically. i want pickups to bring out the acoustic qualities of the guitar. usually play blues/rock and clean melodic stuff. delay, reverb, overdrive. no heavy distortion.

i am thinking about the following sets:

pearly gates set

antiquity set

pearly gates bridge/antiquity neck

which of these sets do you guys like and why?

Custom/59 hybrid for the bridge.
Demon for the neck.

Byt the way, I love your sig. Where did it come from?

i can't remember where i found that, but it rings true in my opinion. feel free to spread it around, maybe one day they'll listen.

i thought about the hybrid for the bridge, but i think i want to go another direction. i have discovered that i really like the sound of un-potted pickups. i know that rules out the pearly gates, but i have heard some demos of the gates that i liked, but still am leaning toward the antiquities. I really like the Sheptone's also, but i think i like the ants. a little better.

I've got all of Duncan's PAF-types, and the onesyou list are the two I like the least. Ant's use aged A2's, which reduce the treble and output of magnets that don't have much to begin with. The high-ends are very rounded, no cut or bite, which would be even moreso in an all-mahogany LP. I put an UOA5 in the bridge and an A3 in the neck of mine to get some treble in them. Few guys have actually owned Ant's and many assume that 'they'll be even better' than Seth's, which they aren't. Too much money for PU's that you may not like in that warm-toned guitar of yours. PG's also have a very smooth neck with a rounded high-end (well-suited for jazz), and the bridge is pretty bright and thin. After what I've read here about them, I was disappointed. I've heard terms like 'raw' and sizzle', and don't see how they apply to PG's. I think they're good PU's, but overrated.

Seth's are a much better choice. Besides the overall open, more complex sound from being unpotted, the neck has more treble and life to it, and the bridge is warm, but not excessively so like Ant's. For me, any combination of Ant's and PG's would be a letdown and mean mandatory magnet swaps. I've never had to change mags in any of my Seths.

Blueman, dangit, now you've got me thinking about seth's. i have followed your posts for a long time now and greatly respect your opinion. have you ever listened to demos of Sheptone Tributes? those sound incredible to me, but are very expensive. i'd love to know you opinion of them.

Haven't heard those yet, but you can get great tones from pickups without spending a fortune. Seth's are reasonably-priced and stand out amongst most PAF's.
