2012 Gibson Shred Les Paul Studio $1695 + $99 shipping

I agree - a little steep to ME for a Studio + Floyd - but if it speaks to YOU, go for it.

While that IS beautiful, and the Studio is the best guitar for the money by Gibson, $1800 for that used one with chips in the finish is WAY overpriced!!!!! (Even if it were in perfect condition).

I just noticed the chips now. If the paint is nitro (because it's Gibson) I hope it could be touched up more easily than my gloss black poly guitars.

I figured an OFR would add at least $200-250 to the price, plus LPs with them are rare (especially genuine Gibsons), so that will have its markup just for the novelty. And the pickups are probably two conductor and will have to be swapped out if one wants more wiring options.

I wish companies were making this aesthetic now for this price new. The Studio has always had a stripped down elegant look that suited rock and metal well.

Instead of this, with new guitars the paint schemes alone look like something from the late 1970s. I won't even start on the designs either being boring or trying something new in a bad way. Luthiers went crazy about 2010 and for my tastes still haven't come back to their senses.

Thanks for your insight, GuitarDoc .

ESP/LTD Eclipse?

I'm not a big fan of FRs but I'd at least play this, no wood chipper.

They say in the description is 7.9 lbs. Seems pretty decent to me?

I mean, for being an above-average body thickness and with Floyd, that's about right, no?

Les Paul Studios are "weight-relieved" meaning they route out chunks of the body to keep the weight in check. 8 lbs or less is considered light for a Les Paul.

I thought people considered weight-relieved/chambered LPs less authentic.

You know, more "tone wood"=better.

It definitely is less authentic compared to the traditional 50/60s LPs. For some people that matters, for others it doesn't.

I used to get hung up on it, but then I learned that tone woods really only matter in acoustic instruments where the wood is an integral part of the resonance and sound projection. :wall:

I totally agree.

I think it makes a small difference but not after you add in all the other variables in a signal chain.
