Re: 2017 Gibson

I don't like the headstock on the Firebird Zero or Studio unfortunately both would be somewhat appealing otherwise. It looks like the SG Custom Special Headstock is pinched in ala a Melody Maker which isn't exactly what I would want either. Well when some of these hit the used market I might be interested possibly but I don't think any new coin is going Henry's way from me anyhow.

Re: 2017 Gibson

They got me this year. My main guitars are my green Les Paul Special and SG-X, and my 1987 Les Paul Custom built the year I was born.

Not to mention my Green Matamp rig. So a dude talked me into selling him the 335-S you see in the picture above for more than twice what i paid for it, which just so happens the exact same number i can get one of these for:

I'm going to take my time, play a few and get the one i like the best but I'm definitely getting myself a brand new green Les Paul Classic for my 30th birthday this year. Can't wait to see them all in a room together. :smokin:

Re: 2017 Gibson

The bevels/scratch plate on the Les Paul Special look a lot like those on the PRS S2 range.

Re: 2017 Gibson

Nothing in the line up really grabs me yet, but I will be interested to see the Memphis releases. It seems they have toned those down a bit in the recent years.

Re: 2017 Gibson

That Explorer looks beyond tasty, but DAMN! Les Pauls with no selector plate? Why must they change the classic parts out? I don't get it... but then again I just remember what kind of man Henry is, and I got it instantly.

Re: 2017 Gibson

LP Standard for $2800?

First and only review on the cheap Firebird: "Gibson has not even tried to fix their QC issues. Even the one in the website photos has a crack at the neck joint!!!". :)

So what is the "T" supposed to mean?

Re: 2017 Gibson

I thought the "T" meant traditional as opposed to the "hp" which I thought was high performance (robo tuners, brass zero fret nut ...). But maybe not.

Are you in a Type O Negative cover band? That's a lot of green.

You are correct. Titanium nut as well as contoured heel for 2016 HP model, too.. But that is the gist of things.

How's the QC these days?

QC on the Classics, Standards, T's , Traditionals I've checked out have all been excellent.

Studios and Studio HP, Faded, and Tribute series I've tried have been a little more sloppy and in need of a pro setup

Re: 2017 Gibson

There are a couple of thing I like about the range.
1. There's a blue Les Paul. Ive loved the colour on the epiphones for years and years. About time they've done a blue Gibson.
2. The LP traditional has Burstbucker 1 & 2 in them. if that's their traditional pickup it should be in their traditional non custom shop guitars.

That's all really and seeing as these are (always was and always will be) out of my price range I will not be getting them. The ones that could be in my price range all have the much derided 49x pickups in. I have the 2016 studio faded which I love wi bb pros in stock. 16 vs 17 are £50 more expensive (release price) for inferior pickups, dot inlays thinner neck and no selector plastic chip. I tried an SG faded with the 49x pickups in and really was not impressed the lp studio was much more alive and dynamic to my ears.

It seems to me that Gibson is trying to tempt the hard rock guys to them, which is fine really, at the expense of us people with more vintage taste.

They just look dull, to me. Maybe some nickel covers or a binding or something. They probably look better in person.
