2017 Gibson

Re: 2017 Gibson

Makes me wonder how LPs will change over the next 10 years. I mean, they can re-create the formula year after year, but they seem to be running out of things to tweak on them. You have them like they used to make them, and there are the ones with 'modern' upgrades. I don't know where you can go after that.

Simple- it would be nice if they would offer the sculpted heel of the HP series on their classic profile and width necks. They could also reduce the headstock angle to no ones afraid the headstock will snap anymore.

Robot tuners may become bluetooth compatable.

They're also following the auto industry in using materials that will last longer- i.e. harder frets, titanium parts, so that the guitar might even outlive you

Re: 2017 Gibson

They got me this year. My main guitars are my green Les Paul Special and SG-X, and my 1987 Les Paul Custom built the year I was born.

Not to mention my Green Matamp rig. So a dude talked me into selling him the 335-S you see in the picture above for more than twice what i paid for it, which just so happens the exact same number i can get one of these for:

I'm going to take my time, play a few and get the one i like the best but I'm definitely getting myself a brand new green Les Paul Classic for my 30th birthday this year. Can't wait to see them all in a room together. :smokin:

Never seen that green before.. nice!

Re: 2017 Gibson

I would buy the HP models over the normal ones. But I am not a fan of most things that are traditional, and I am not your average Gibson buyer (even though I am one of their artists).

Re: 2017 Gibson

Id like to see the sculpted heel be more common. As far as where to go from here. Obviously, they have to keep offering the traditional ones. But with those, I see changes in materials to more sustainable and/or man made products. "Normal" wood ones will keep escalating GREATLY in price. And of course advances in automatic tuners, maybe even auto tune like they use for all the pop singers' voices to help your playing sound in tune when you are sucking. (I need that!)
And if anyone comes out with any more gizmos (like Bucketheads kill button), they will try those on a model. And escalated prices EVERY year. A Gibson tradition!!

They are finding new and better ways to make them uglier. There's an entire research team assigned to the task. You can even see the mottling of the paint in the promo photos. The changes are visceral and palpable. Get your Bitcoins out, gents. Gibson is back.

To their credit, there's some body / arm sculpting and heel access. (Wonder how strong the joint is?)

Re: 2017 Gibson

I will admit that some of their budget LP and SG variations match some of the atrocities of the 70s. The paint in the photo above looks like a pixel/resolution problem, though. Or really bad Photoshop work.
