2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

Re: 2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

So you guys have been wonderfully helpful. I appreciate that. I just have a couple more questions.

So Im leaning towards the JB bridge. Would the Seth be too low output for the neck? They recommend the 59 or the jazz. What do you typically pair with a JB?

Re: 2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

A JB is typically (or most commonly) paired with a Jazz, but that certainly doesn't mean you have to. A Jazz is a pickup on the brighter side- very clean, clear, and articulate. If it is a bright guitar, it could be a problem. You mentioned a Seth, which I love, but if you play with lots of gain, feedback could eventually be a problem, as it isn't potted. I'd opt for something like the Alnico II Pro, which will round off the highs, yet, still pair well with the JB. It is also wax potted, so it won't squeal.

Well I think I might take your exact suggestion and get the JB and a A2P. Going to do the vintage gibson wiring with all new CTS pots at the same time.

Carefull 500K volume pots will increase treble in your bridge pickup. I just had a LP knock off built and went with 300K all around.

Re: 2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

Just put your favorite Duncans in it.

I like Antiquitys.

Also like Seth Lovers without covers.

Also like Pearly Gates.

Also like 59's with RCA5 magnets.

Whatever YOU like, put them in there and sell the SE pickups on Reverb. You should be able to get about $40 for the pair.

Have to ask.. How does the RCA5 change the fiddynine? (assume you mean rough cast??)
Thanks

I think the Roughcast A5 magnet adds some texture/complexity to the mids and gives a little rounder sound to the treble.

That's the diff I hear/sense.

So I got them installed along with the vintage Gibson wiring. In the mean time I also got a Marshall DSL40C as well. Sounds much better. Palm muting has much more power and the highs aren’t so piercing. Much better all around sound. The bridge has definite power and it very dynamic. The neck is just wow. Best neck pickup I have heard. My Les Paul has a custom custom and a 59 and I like this neck better than that even. Thanks for the recommendations. Plus I gotta say the chrome covers look better than before with zebras. 19481386-3A35-4723-801E-51F6B8BC0B70.jpg

Re: 2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

Yea very very happy. Just gotta get the pickup heights right. Do you guys have a go to number to start with?

Re: 2017 PRS se zach myers really bright

I ballpark and do it by ear. I start by putting the gross height of the bridge pickup right next to the strings or relatively close to the strings because the bass is good there. Then adjust the neck to where it's equal volume wise. Then I fine tune each side of the pickup to where it has the right amount of bass or treble. Adjust the bass side up to increase or down to decrease bass. Adjust the treble side up to increase or down to decrease treble.

So I need some help guys. I put these pickups in and redid the wiring to vintage Les Paul wiring and now it has like no volume. I have the amp turned almost all the way up and it has no gain sound and if I turn the volume knob from like 10 to 8 it goes silent. Any ideas?
