Been eyeing the Spirit for a couple of years... wanted a Steinberger since the mid 80s (and it has to be THAT body shape). Everything I’ve read or heard on the net tells me that the stock pickups suck balls though.

Mincer may be able to enlighten us on that one. I think he's pretty familiar with the Spirits.
I own a full body carbon fibre neck bass from the 80's. It uses active pups which are fine for the bass.

I used to have an HSS that I refinished in Yellow, don’t know if it was then but good to see it’s a standard color now
I did swap the pickups for SDs (cool rails, hot rails and JB IIRC) but haven’t tried the new ones. Definitely tempting.

I don't own a Spirit, although I used to own a GU, which is the full-body model Spirit. Mine had 'EMG Select' pickups, which means they were awful. I don't know what the current pickups are- most likely re-branded Selects. My Synapse in my pic came with true EMGs, which I didn't like- now it has a Custom Shop 59/Custom Hybrid & APH-1 in it.
I am happy Steinberger is back, but I will hold out until the brand gets sold or they come out with USA/graphite neck models- essentially reissues of those expensive ones above. And, oh, I am on the artist page of the new Steinberger site...cool!
