22 fret strat necks

On Fender strats with 22 frets, does the fingerboard overhang a little?
Just wondering, because I don't remember right now, and I know 21 fretboards go flush with the neck.

Not to hijack the thread, but I wanted to verify something.

Do all strat necks fit all strat bodies? MIM, MIJ, CIJ, Am Std, CS, 21, 22 etc

I know that tele and strat necks aren't interchangeable because strats are curved at the end of the neck, and tele necks are straight.

Re: 22 fret strat necks

Almost always. There are a few rare exceptions, usually really cheap imports for <50$. But I haven´t seen one of them new in about 10 years.

And Jonesey: THe Fender Strat Spec neck pocket is AFAIK universal for strats, as is the Tele Pocket for Teles. Charvel is one of the few that use(d) a different heel width (on the old USA pointies, the neck butt is 1/16" wider IIRC, and I think on the new ones as well seeing that they feel exactly the same) ;)

you mean the heel?

some strats have a flat heel, some have a rounded heel.. and also, some necks are straight at the end and some are rounded...

TO's 70'something axe is smack dab in the middle of em, coming stock with a flat pocket and a rounded neck heel

timmay, did you have a chance to send the stuff out yet?

Re: 22 fret strat necks

What Strats have a flat neck heel? :eek13: That's probably the fretboard extension making it look at that way from aftermarket Strat neck builders. Strat necks always have rounded heels, even the extension is rounded.

The general rule is you can put a Strat neck on a Tele but you can't put a Tele neck on a Strat. With the Strat neck on a Tele there will be a little gap at the front corners. Putting a Tele neck on a Strat would require wood remove at the front end of the pocket for it to fit.

Not always, though in teh range between 50$ and 1500$ this is generally true. But there are both highend makers and ultracheap knockoffs that DO use a tele style heel on a strat because it´s marginally more stable. One of the reasons the strat neck was rounded was to facilitate shifting it in the pocket if the pocket was slightly off ;)

Aftermarket manufacturers, sure, I can see that. When I hear strat though, I think Fender, and a Fender Strat neck heel is round. ;) But I see your point, and it's valid, just not in the Fender world, unless it's Custom Shop.
