25.5" scale neck on Single Cut Les Paul body

Hey guys,

Blueline's going to built me my dream axe, and he wanted to know the neck specs. I basically wanted to have the neck build after one of the most comfortable necks in guitar (shred) history: The Ibanez JPM (Petrucci) neck. The specs:

25.5" scale neck
Width at Nut: 42mm
Width at Last Fret: 57mm
Neck thickness (side, including fretboard) at 1st fret: 19mm
Neck thickness (side, including fretboard) at 12th fret: 21mm
Fingerboard Radius: 430mm/12"

It's a fairly thin neck compared to the normal Les Paul necks. Considering the body style (Single Cut Les Paul) Blueline thought a 25" scale would be a better option, though he had no problem with doing a 25.5" scale. I thought the 25.5" scale would kinda complete the original Petrucci neck design. It's also going to be a heelless (set-in) neck joint for amazing upper fret acces even with 24 frets.

So I basically wanted your thoughts on this. Also, will the playability and sound suffer from a 25.5 neck?

Doesn't hurt the Strat or Tele! Both use the 25 1/2" scale length. Your low notes will have a little more depth and authority and your intonation should be a little better with the longer scale. I prefer the 25 1/2" scale and most of my guitars have the longer scale. Lew

The only thing I notice is that the shorter scale has a rounder tone within single note runs and a more in your face punch. But, I agree with Lew on the clarity and intonation, plus a lot of depth. I however do not have any lack of depth issues with my LP or Dean Evo Premium.

If you like that neck, then copy it exactly, scale length and all. If you don't, you may regret it later. ;)

@Lew: Thanks for the info, that's what I thought too. Blueline told me a 25" neck would be easier to play with and sound better, but I didn't really know how that was possible, I see what he meant now, it basically wouldn't sound better but just a bit different right? I think the "Petrucci" neck would be easier to play with a 25.5" scale anyway. Another thank you :)

@Papersoul: I think the difference is very hard to notice, very minor you see. I just didn't want the overall sound and playability to suffer and stuff. Thanks

@Darkshadow: That's also what I thought, that's why I incisted on the 25.5 scale neck. It might look a little funny, because it's longer and tinner, but I can't wait to play it :). Thanks

I'm open for other comments, though these guys helped out excellent!
