Hi there
I've just replaced my duncan designed stock bridge pup from my jackson with the JB trembucker. It sounds teriblel! I have 500K pots. The others pups (single designed duncans) sounds very good after the replacement. Only the JB sucks. It doesn't have the "balls". The output is too low, sound is strangled. Do I have to change the pots to? 250K? Or consult a specialist? :smack:
pls help
thanx

Re: 250K pots for JB????

i think ur bridge pickup is too far away from your strings, or your asking for emg balls. remember the guitar design place a big part in your sound to. the jb wont sound good in a bright sounding guitar unless it has 250k

One more thing . . . the output will drop even more with 250k pots.

Sounds like you need to adjust your JB some more. And consulting the specialists is exactly what you have done by posting a question on this forum, welcome!
I'd suggest you raise the polepieces so the bottom of the screwheads are flush with the top of the bobbin. Then adust the pieces in this pattern: / \/ \/ \. I'm not shure about the physics behind this it seems to work nicely for fattening up the tone. Also raise the JB completely until it is very close to the strings, but not too close. Just experiment and trust your ears. If it still sounds to shrill, change out the pots to 250.
I've done all of this and I love the tone I'm getting now. The JB DOES have balls!
Remember finetuning can make a huge difference.

I am very very surprised at the fact that u say the JB out put is too low! I think the problem lies elsewhere

Re: 250K pots for JB????

I have a couple of Jacksons that I have installed Duncans in with great results. It sounds to me like you have a problem with your installation. That thing should scream in the bridge of that guitar. Tell us what your wiring looks like and we'll see if we can get it worked out. Peace :)

BTW I have a couple of DK-2's with those Duncan Designed SC101's and HB102's and they sound pretty dang good IMHO. From what I have read the SC101 is a MIK knock-off of the USA SSL-6 and the HB101 is a MIK knock-of...yep, you guessed it, the USA SH-4 JB. I use SSL-6's all the time and the SC101's are definitely close. The HB102 to me has a sound all it's own, kind of like a Duncan Distortion but with an A5 magnet. I like 'em. As a matter of fact one of my DK's still has the DD's in it and I have '59, a Custom, and an SSL-2 all ready to try in it but it sounds good like it is so I just keep on playing it :). I'll get around to it eventually. I want to put a Cool Rails in the neck and throw the Custom in the bridge like I did on my other one. I also have a couple of othe Jacksons with other Duncans in them (C5's, PG's, and SSL-6's).

Rock on!

hey guys, thanx for your quick replies! it seems it was a little wiring problem :smack: . JB realy rocks!!! but another thing happend: with the switch in the 4th position (middle+JB) the sound cuts off again (low level & output). now i'm sure it is a wiring problem again and by the end of the week i'll see a specialist.
PEACE!
