Is so ridiculously stable and intonates so well in standard tuning it might just make you sick.

... just passing along the info.

Re: 27" scale length

...I hope one of these :D

(I like the SC version with switches better, blah blah blah)

Re: 27" scale length

are baritone guitars hard to keep in standard?

from what ive heard the strings feel really iffy and loose in a baritone guitar when tuned to standard

Re: 27" scale length

I was thinking of upgrading to a 27 scale since apparently the distance between the frets is greater (I have huge hands) (ive never played a baratone guitar so I wouldnt really know).

is there much difference in size? like in distance between the frets?

Re: 27" scale length

I'm not talking about baritones... I'm talking about longer scale lengths and standard tuning. Mine just happens to be a 27" scale. I've been a 25.5" player forever and the accuracy of my 27" is incredibly noticeable.

is the distance between frets greater? if so how much more noticable is it

Re: 27" scale length

It's probably a combination of the bridge being a little farther back and the frets being more spaced out. It is noticable, because I've always played 25.5 guitars and going from my 26 7 string back was noticable and going from a 24.75 after playing that for a month and going back to 25.5 was noticable. Especially if you are playing songs from muscle memory and not looking at the fretboard when playing, it messes you up.

Try playing one of those ibanez 8 strings, those are 27" scales, standard tuning with 2 lower strings, friggin awesome! Some of the guitars meshuggah had made for them are like 28" 0r 30" scales !!!

(SS:: Ok Marten, we're all gear nuts here - Can you give us a quick rundown on your custom 7 & 8 string Ibanez guitars?

MH: Oh man, lets see. I've got an old black 'n green Ibanez Universe (got it 92/93) that I don't use anymore. It hangs in the studio more like a curiosity. Great guitar though. I got one standard scale black Ibanez Custom 7-string bolt-on neck called "MH" because its got my initials as a fretboard inlay. Another black Ibanez Custom but with Extended scale bolt-on(27 inch if I'm not mistaken) and one Ibanez Custom 27" scale neck-through. Its grey and the lid is Flame-maple I think. I have one Black/worn Nevborn Custom which is standard scale, neck-through. I also got a 7-string acoustic Ibanez. That's it for the 7's.

Now for the 8's. I've got 2 Black Ibanez custom 8's 30" Neck-through. One Ibanez Custom 8 with piezo, black bolt-on neck 30 ". And finally I have a Nevborn custom 8. Black (big surprise) 29" neck-through. Now I'm unsure of the respective wood selections but all guitars except for the Universe are fitted with Lundgren pick-ups. )

Somewhat but if you're a 25.5 player it won't make much of a difference. You feel it in the first few frets but other than that it just feels more "roomy" so to speak.

Re: 27" scale length

I'm thinking of upgrading my guitar im having built and using the 27 scale and tuning it to Ab Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb so this might be a good idea

You've got me curious, what guitar do you own?

The only guitar I'm aware of that is built with that scale length in mind for standard tuning is the Soloway Swan. Inquiring minds want to know! :)

It is indeed a Soloway Swan 7 string. ;)

Excellent taste! :fing2:

Steve Kimock tends to agree with your assessment of the longer scale length. If there ends up being a run of "black beauty" esque Swans made, I'm going to have a hard time saying "no" :D
