2xEL34 Franklin?

If I come up with a 2xEL34 Franklin, should I change the name to something completely different or work the name Franklin into it?

When it is done, it will be something very similar to a Matchless Clubman, possibly more Cheiftain oriented, but JTM45 kind of power in a cathode bias configuration, so probably not a full 45 watts.

I would say leave it the same...just have 2 versions of the Franklin...or change the name of the EL84 version to Frankie!

My only concern is that I end up with something like what Mike Z has with the Mazeratti, the Maz Sr. , the Maz Jr. I'm worried that it confuses on one hand, but on the other hand, it tells folks that the amps all come from the same bloodlines.

I say make sure people know that the amps are "kin".

i think a similar name would be good so people know they are kin, but id also make sure it is quite distinct so their wont be the confusion that z has with the maz series. my friends have piles of the maz series but i couldnt tell ya who has what.
the el34's tone and extra power should be given a new badge

Your best bet is probably the Franklin 15/30/45...I think folks can figure that one out easy enough:wink:

I like that too, you have a very classy look and approach to your amp line. I like the feel it conveys... Goofy nicknames seem out of place with the look of your stuff. I would love to hear it with some 6CA7s in it!

I too like the Franklin 15/30/45 set, but "Franklinstein" sounds kind of cool too.

How about V1 as an EF86? Or am I asking for too many problems since good EF86 new production tubes are hard to find?

and if you could turn the 30 into a 15 'on the fly' by flicking a switch to deactivate two of the tubes, that'd be cool too ... unless there are more differences

I've thought about that, pretty easy, but you get an impedance mis-match. Not something I'd worry about on my personal amp, but if I'm expected to provide warranty coverage on them for the first two years, I don't want to introduce a potential problem. Someone could easily just pull two tubes.

That is a tough one. I have learned no one likes the new stuff and the old stuff is real spendy. How do the Matchless that use them hold up?
