3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

I think everyone should own at least one POS guitar as their only guitar for at least 6 months once they know how to play.

It'll give you an appreciation for the good ones.

No asterisks! My first guitar was my dad's old Stagg classical guitar. He used steel strings on a nylon guitar and really messed up the neck on that plywood bird. When I moved from that guitar I got a lot better even when I came back to it just for fun.

My Grandmother bought me my first guitar from a Sears catalog. Talk about a POS, I can't believe I stuck with guitar after playing that thing. :laugh2: It got me going though and that's all that matters really.

If I could only have 3 guitars it would be.

1.) Les Paul w/ Humbuckers

2.) Strat

3.) Hollowbody w/ P-90's

Everything after that would be icing on the cake.

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

A Les Paul Standard
A Les Paul with P-90's

1. B.C. Rich Neck-through Jr V with Seymour Duncan Livewire Metal's - Glossy Black with red painted bevels - double locking tremolo - Widow headstock - large diamond inlays -

2. Bernie Rico Jr. Neck-through Vixen V 7 String with EMG 707's - White with blood splattered paint job - double locking tremolo - No inlays -

3. Moser Custom Shop Bastard V with Seymour Duncan Livewire Metal's - Same Specs are number 1 except with No inlays on the fret-board.

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Being a Super Strat player I guess I would go for:

- Ibanez JEM 10th Aniversary
-Jackson Soloist Custom Shop, Order Made, with Snakeskin or special order paint.
-Warmoth Super Strat based on a Jackson Soloist, with custom "Mjöllnir" inlays, and some Stained Grey Transparant finish.

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

1. Gibson 335 or Heritage equivalent

2. Fender Tele reissue (butterscotch)

3. Hamer Custom Shop Sunburst Archtop/Studio. To my specs: chunky tapered neck, killer flamed top in faded cherry sunburst or lemondrop, Monster cables, Duncan Custom in the bridge & Jazz in the neck.

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

I prefer G&L Legacys over the typical Fender Strat, so my choice for my three electrics would be:

A G&L Legacy, with the standard alnico pickups;
A G&L Legacy Special, with the hotter ceramic Gotoh Blades pickups
A Gibson 1960 Historic Les Paul

With other options, I would certainly add a hollowbody jazzer, a 335, a 12-string electric, some version of a Gretsch, a Taylor 655 or 855 12-String, a Martin D18 and a D28 in the "Golden Era" versions, and perhaps a Taylor acoustic as well.

A few years ago, I was in a pawn shop and over-heard a guy talking about how, "...everybody needed 20 guns." And he had his list, from an AR-15 to a .45 cal Colt 1911, a 9mm Beretta, a 12-ga shotgun, a .38 cal snub revolver, a Thompson Contender single shot hunting pistol, a .30-30 lever action deer rifle, a derringer, etc. He had a logical reason why each gun was a necessity--and it was pretty funny listening to the guy, and watching his wife roll her eyes! He admitted that he was only up to #12 on his list, and his prospects for obtaining all 20 (and staying happily married!) were pretty slim.

Not sure I NEED all of my 41 currently-owned guitars--but I'm pretty sure I'd need more than just three to survive!

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

A Les Paul Custom
A Les Paul Standard
A Les Paul with P-90's

Geez, we're about the same age, and I've seen way too many responses that are almost identical! I guess great minds do think alike! Separated at birth maybe???

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Acoustic
Dean Hardtail (2 HBs, gibson scale mahogany etc)
Maybe another Hardtail??? Or maybe a fendery kind of axe to vary my sound. A V maybe? Maybe all:)

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Well im my opinion, everyone needs american guitars, I've have a Les Paul that has been through ww3 and its still alive, and my american strat deluxe plays like a dream, american guitars were built to last...

So to answer the question-

Gib Les Paul
Strat(American)
and something to beat around on of your choice

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

I've been rolling this around in my head and just can't come up with a satisfactory 3.

Right now I am thinking..

1. Strat HSS w/ coil tapping.
2. Mahogany HH guitar. Whether it be an LP, Dean Hardtail, Explorer....
3. A good acoustic w/ pick up. Taylor, Alvarez, Martin... Your pick.

But.. if it were just 3 electrics and not talking about acoustics then I suppose for a third I'd go with a Semi-Hollow of some sort with single coils.

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

you need a strat style (single coil)

a les paul style (hums)

and a semi hollow/ hollow body guitar (hums)

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Les Paul(Gibson only, no copies), USA Strat (SSS), and Taylor Acoustic. Got 1 out of 3 already, so maybe this is feasible!

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

Taylor 612c
Jackson soloist 2h or superstrat
Les Paul

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

PRS Single Cut with a trem and DDb and 59n
PRS McCarty with C5b and 59n
Fender Strat with texas specials

2/3 of the way there. Got a HW1 and McCarty

Re: 3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

I am more a acoustic player and have a lot of acoustic guitars around.
But if we talk electric actually i own only 3 of them:
1. Epi Les Paul Standard (SH-2/SH-4)
2. Fender Lite Ash Stratocaster (APS-1)
3. Fender Special TC-90 Thinline Tele (SP90-1/SP90-3)

I owned several other electrics in the past but i think i will keep this 3 forever.
