3-way toggle 3 pickups wiring diagram?

Hi all -

I picked up a used USA Charvel San Dimas in Trans Kandy gold. It has HSS with a 3-way toggle. I guess the original owner put in a 2-way toggle. I want to swap it out with a 3-way toggle. Does anyone know how to wire this for bridge, middle, and neck?

with a 3 way toggle.. id wire it up so that the toggle controls the neck and bridge and for the neck.. either have a push/pull pot to turn the mid on/off or a free volume to control the mid

not too many ways you can wire up that configuration (H/S/S).. if thats what you want.. let me know and ill draw it up for ya..or give me some ideas and ill see what i can come up with

Thanks. I was looking up Les Paul 3 humbuckers wiring and found bridge, bridge +middle, neck. I wouldn't mind that actually. It would be a 3-way toggle, and one volume.

I did this in my Firebird. It doesn't use a standard 3-way switch, however.

I'd get a 5 way blade. Or one of those 6 way Freeway switches.

What would the positions be in this case?

The Freeway switch wiring would get you close but you would need a push/pull
on the volume pot to kick in either the neck or bridge to give you all three.
This switch may be better used to split the HB to give you more balanced volumes.
By adding an extra hole you could use an Emerson Blender No-load pot to dial in
Any variable of either neck or bridge to get all three and still retain the vol P/P to split the bridge HB.

How you would draw a diagram for this is best left to the experts here, it is theoretically possible.

Might need a pilot's license to fly it but a very versatile array of sounds indeed!

I have no idea actually as the contacts are not really touching so I barely get any sound from either positions. I'll have to go in there and play around with it tonight.

looking at the drawing if you did away with each individual volume and just have a master volume you with have ....neck + middle,ALL,middle+bridge.. i could be wrong but thats what I see

dont think you will be happy with that configuration..

So I emailed Charvel suport and they gave me the diagram:

That's a 3-way toggle DPDT. Any ideas on where to buy them; all I see are mini versions of it.

So I checked and it's actually the right 3-way toggle switch. It just doesn't stay in the middle position, only neck and bridge positions. Plus it is very hard to switch and makes a crazy loud sound. Just going to replace it....

if it was me,id get a 6 pos. freeway switch for the most options.. a 3 way switch for a 3 pup guitar is sorta pointless imo unless you do what I initially suggested

The Charvel diagram looks like the switch will do bridge, middle, neck only (no blends of pickups). If it was behaving like a two-way, someone jacked up the little contact flanges in there, but that could also just happen from slamming the switch back and forth over time also.
