30W amps with 2 6V6s?

Re: 30W amps with 2 6V6s?

I've had JJ 6V6's in my Fender hot rod deluxe and from what I've heard from others who've done it the output is 30 or 32 watts. I dont recall the voltage numbers so I cant do the math myself but the wattage has got to be close. And the tubes were perfectly happy.

it would be a very involved project. not mindblowing, but could be done. i say mod the AOR, b4 tearing it up. and build a few simple amps B$ trying even that. you need some iron time. just being honest. nothing like building an amp to get ya good, but rebuilding is a whole other animal.

Mhmm well the OT doesn't have ANY writings on it.
I took the chassis off and tried to check how much voltage was in the filter and coupling caps. I did this after a break of half an hour of playing and there was about 30 volts left in the big can alongside the tubes. That surprised me a bit... Is that normal? I wanted to drain them because it's useful to know how to do that simply enough.
And the PCB wouldn't come out unless I unsolder everything that leads to it. I have NO clue how they actually got it in there to start with. It won't make modding easy :(

Before gutting it I would try a different speaker. A G12H would be great because of the efficiency rating and it is safe up to 30 watts.

If you are planning on stripping the amp you ought to just step up the tubes to EL34s and get a new set of trannys. If you do that you'll have a lot more options.

That's what i was thinking of actually... Do a turret board JCM800, change the OT and mains... It may cause a problem for the choke but it should be doable.

Ow YIKES! A mains transformer would be even more than an OT. Meh. Out of the question. I'll just replace the main filter caps an try to get rid of the noise for now.

Look---this is the wrong platform, the wrong amp, and you are gonna end up with an expensive pile of junk that may or may not work and you may get hurt in the process. Sell it in stock condition and put your money in a amp that does what you want instead of trying to make a Porsche out of a Yugo. Or---do your homework, buy a kit for the amp you need, and build it.

Yeah it does seem it'll end up this way. Problem was, without money this was the ONLY platform. I'm a bit worried about the filter cap not actually keeping any voltage inside though. I can't sell the amp either, I've been trying for a year. But I like its clean tone so I play with pedals now. Route 66, Uber metal, EH small stones phaser and soon a modded DS1 or a big muff. And after a plexi emulation and a SLO emulation. Should be good enough.
