335's...Do you like the later years?

Re: 335's...Do you like the later years?

I can see Bumblebees inside...maybe that's a clue for someone? I generally like .015n/.022b, but again...it's happy...so...I'm not likely to mess with it.

That's the lastest for those who are interested. If that gives any insight into year or PUPs...holla.

I hate to break it to you, but the Gibson historic bumblebees are fake. Someone on one of the LP forums x-rayed theirs and discovered that they're just orange drops with a fancy snap-on cover. You should be able to find the thread if you Google it.

Regarding the pickups, the serial number you posted the other day was for a '59 RI ES-335 from 2003. Assuming that the pickups are stock, they're either '57 Classics or a BB1/BB2 set. I remember they switched to Burstbuckers in the LPs in 2002, but I'm not sure if/when 335s were changed.

Re: 335's...Do you like the later years?

Well here is where it gets interesting... I got in touch with Gibson to ask about the year. According to them, A-93xxx could be 93, 03, or 13 as they use the same format for all three. This model wasn't made in 93, so... 03 or 13. They are going to help me figure it out when I send them some specific pictures, which they requested. I would like to know which PUP's are in there, as Gibson is tough to ID in many cases. As far as the BB's...Interesting but...I don't really care. All I'm concerned with is how it plays and how it sounds...every thing else is just interesting. If I change cps it'll be because I like. 015 values for neck HB's. Right now...it's pretty sweet as is. Of course, I have only had a few minutes to heat it up. Tomorrow will be fun.

I put the black top hats on there...the originals were black bells.

Re: 335's...Do you like the later years?

I'm partial to black bells since most of my semi hollow Gibsons rock them, but they suit yours. She's a beaut. A good 335 is a keeper for sure.

Heard back from Gibson. It's a 2013...Custombuckers.
So far...they are pretty nice sounding...subtle though. I haven't really played with the height, pole-pieces, or at volume so...can't say for sure. I tend to favor 59's in just about everything, but it may nice to change up. I'm gonna leave it alone for now.
One thing I still need to ask the Gibson rep is if the pots are 500's...that...will have to happen if not.

Re: 335's...Do you like the later years?

I would wager that the pots are 500s. That is a beautiful Lady in Red you have there, enjoy her!
