I have a question regarding pickup wiring. I just got a Duncan Pegasus to replace the stock bridge in my Ibanez.
I want to have it so the switching options are as follows:
Neck hum
Neck single
Both hum
Both single
Bridge hum (with push/pull series/parallel switch on tone knob)
I have the basic wiring down, the only thing that’s throwing me off is the series/parallel switch.
From diagrams I’ve looked up it seems in the series position the red and white wires are connected, black is out, green to ground.
Then in the parallel position Black and red are out and green and white go to ground.
This all makes sense, but for the super 5 way switch wiring, in order to get the Both single option red and white on the bridge have to be connected (with both going to ground).
So if I put the series/parallel switch into the parallel position, red, white and green will be going to ground, making the bridge pickup a single coil, not two single coils running in parallel.
The only way I can see this working is if in the both single coil position I wire only the white of the bridge to ground, but that would leave the red wire open ended, which doesn’t sound like it would be a good thing.
Would that work? Or would that just potentially cause a bunch of noise?
I got this idea from Pete Thorn and his signature guitar and wanted to try something new out with pickup configurations. So I know the end result is possible, but I don’t know what I’m missing in getting it done.
