i've been wanting to make a demo of this thing for awhile.
its almost as good as my dsl for rhythm power chord fullness?

Geez, are you kidding me? Did you run that straight into the recorder, or through an amp? I think it sounds killer. And I just spent a hundred bucks on a Blackstar DISTX trying to get that kind of tone, lol.

i have one as well and it sounds killer, i haven't made any recordings with mine yet but it has some nice tones for sure.

guitar into vox unit into computer

no real amps involved, just ran 1/8 to 1/4 adapter to plug into my audio unit input

Sounds cool - lets face it though, you've got good ears to mix guitars. Could probably make a pignose sound huge.

well i appreciate that.
the magic is the mix around it. if i solo out the guitar its decent but not as cool sounding as when the mix is going.

it seems the moar time i take away from making music, the second i come back im better at thinking about it than ever.
so its like i can progress by avoiding it altogether? anyone else like that?

im still heavily considering ditching my worth money psychical all tube marshall for sims such as these, for what i do musically i just feel its not worth it to have such valuable things in a economic depression. the marshall is just so treble focused its hard to get a heavy power chord tone out of it.

what do you think guys dumb decision? or who knows?..or whatever!? :wall:

Give it another shot, it might be a simple speaker change or trying some different tubes. I also have a big tube amp but i also have Amplitube, a rig which uses the AMT S-1 pedal, a Marshall Lead 12 amp in my bedroom, i have the free Lepou plug-ins for Garageband, and i also have the Vox Metal headphone amp. Having options for different tones is always nice.

How did you record and mix this? Double tracking, bouncing, stuff like that? Did you do all the guitars or is the Vox just the power chords? Damn good stuff there, man.

i know what your saying ive been down this road before and i always have to come back to my senses. DSL preamp tone is better than any sim, but i guess i just like the fact of getting money for the amp.

every guitar you hear is the Vox, with the same eqs and gain for both lead and rhythm tone.
only different is sublte eq changes in Reaper for each part.
mainly to mix the rhythm and lead tone to fit into a mix better and not step on each other.
i didnt really do that much.

That sounded great! ..awesome sound and excellent mix...

Amp sims/modelers are the way to go for modern high gain. I have a H&K switchblade combo that I prefer not to use for recording/gigs because I get better tone from the line-out out of my Line6 Spider IV.

I even used it at a gig recently...line-out to the PA at the venue. We ended up being complimented for having the best sound of the evening. (3 piece doom/death band with NO bass player!). I can post a link to a HD video of us covering Autopsy's classic "Twisted Mass Of Burnt Decay" ( ) if the OP has no objection..don't want to butt in here.
