411 on TopHat amps

Re: 411 on TopHat amps

Sorry, I have not played one, but I thought I would give you my experience with TopHat in general. I have a TopHat Club Royale and I am very happy with it. The tone stack takes some getting used to (don't be afraid to turn the treble all the way down, for example, and use the "cut" control if you need even less highs...the tone controls are very interactive and to an extent non-intuitive).

TopHat has a forum, too (http://www.tophatamps.com/forum/). You could ask over there.

Re: 411 on TopHat amps

I played the old version and the Emplexador is God-like. It's seriously the best boutique Marshall clone I think I've ever heard. I've heard even better things about the newly revoiced model. The old one was amazing, so the new one has to be ridiculously good. If you like Marshall and you're looking for an extremely well built boutique version, you're not going to do better than Top Hat. Trust me on that.

Re: 411 on TopHat amps

I've played a recent Emplexador 50 2x12 combo.

I liked it a lot in the lower gain settings, but it didn't thrill me for higher gain. I'd really like to try it through a greenback 4x12, as that may make a big difference. No doubt it's a cool amp.

I think the_Chris hit the nail on the head. I have a block logo Emplexador. It kicks all kind of butt for classic rock ad hard rock. Does the whole plexi to JCM800 thing with class. One of the best sounding amps on the planet IMHO.
