5 way blade with two humbucker options

ehdwuld

A Ficus
so I got a five way standard switch with two poles
I wanted to use a super switch with four poles but it wouldnt fit the cavity (too tall)

I got two humbuckers single vol and tone

I want, at minimum the regular position 1 , 3, and 5

1. Bridge hum
2.
3. Bridge and Neck Hum
4.
5. Neck Hum

On the super switch, I was going to get the inner coils on in 2
and the outer coils on in 4

but now I dont know what I can get

I got the one from the Wiring diagrams on the SD site
that says 5 way with splits
and that should give me an outer coil bridge in 2
and an outer coil neck in 4
screw coil being outer coil

what else can I do
the neck outer coil on 4 would be cool

but I hate a single coil on the bridge

does anyone have any other options?

my cavity is only 34mm deep

I looked at the freeway switch but its too wide
I would have to carve out some wood to get it in

I thought about a JEM switch it may work and give me 4 poles

what ideas does anyone else have?

My favorite is what came standard with my strandberg which is:

To get Bridge and Neck on 3, you're going to have to jumper lugs 1-3 on the bridge PU side, and jumper lugs 3-5 on the neck PU side, so that will only leave you with two lugs open on both sides, and your common will have to be to hot on both sides. So the easiest thing 'natively' you could do would be to put the bridge red+white on lug 4 of the bridge side, and neck red+white on lug 2 of the neck side, which would give you bridge+neck screw coil in position 2, and neck+bridge screw coil in position 4. Don't know how great that would sound, but it would be an easy option to add.

Switches aren't that expensive. I'd just look for a switch (like a Schaller Mega, if it fits) that has some useful options built in.

The ibanez otax vl91 is a low profile super switch. Its gold.

When i was in school a shitty guitar tech stole the otax switch from my ibanez and claimed it was broken. He ducked me til i gave up trying to get it back.

But the best 2hb setup is a 3way with push pull coil tap. Imo. Too many wasted hours wiring that otax.

I think the otax is what I was calling a JEM switch
Ibanez super switch they used in JEM guitars

but yeah
thanks

I like the 4 pole 5 way option listed in the image above
this is what I did originally until I couldnt get the cover on

dang it

my short switches came in

let me see if what Beau's ideas sound like

Schaller's Megaswitch P gives you the PRS setup with inner coils parallel in position 4 and outer coils in position 2.
A great configuration IMO. And it'll fit anywhere a standard blade will.

ok

here is where I am at
I may get the schaller mega switch , I will have to look it up
I got the 4 pole super switch but the large roundness of it was just a bit to tall

anyways I got the 5 way import switches

they are like this

A3
A2
A1
AC
BC
B3
B2
B1

as you would expect
the duncan schematic says this

A3 - bridge hum start
A2 - neck hum start
A1 - coil split from bridge
AC - hot from volume
BC
B3
B2 - ground
B1 - neck coil split

this would give me
1 bridge
2 bridge and neck
3 neck
4 bridge split neck split
5 bridge split

not exactly what I want ( I could be reading this wrong)

what I think will work is this

A3 - bridge hum start
A2 - bridge coil split
A1
AC - hot from volume
BC - hot from volume
B3
B2 - neck coil split
B1 - neck hum start

I think this will give me

1 bridge hum
2 bridge split
3 bridge and neck split
4 neck split
5 neck hum

does this sound right?

So you know, those are both splitting to the screw coil, because you're connecting the series link to hot. The Duncan version gets you the screw of the bridge and the slug of the neck, so hum-cancelling.

the otax switch yes let me see what I can do with the ones I have
I was having trouble locating one online

thats why I settled for these

ibanezrules.com

I just got some parts, they have that switch in stock. Its like $40.

Terrible to have to rewire it again to get what you really want.

The very best 5way 2hum I have ever heard is:

bridge full
bridge and neck SERIES
bridge and neck parallel
bridge and neck Series OUT of PHASE
Neck full

split is under a push pull pot.

I love split+series and the out of phase + series. Those are so amazing.

I did this on my RG2 with a 4 pole super switch
but again the super switch is too tall for this guitar

but plus one that is and excellent switching option
with the RG2
I also have the Triple shot rings that do the split /parallel thing

billie

I think in post #8
I can acheive this without the super switch you have
but as Top-L said
the two screw coils wont be hum canceling

I can rewire the bridge so that the black and green are the coil spilt and use the red as hot
this should give me the slug coil for the bridge when split

Very nice!

I would hate to lose both humbuckers on together with this scheme.
I hear you, it’s definitely a trade off. I’ve noticed that I personally like both humbuckers on for vintage output pickups. In that guitar I have a prails in the neck and a hybrid in the bridge and really prefer the split combinations.

Yah, full hums in-series-out-of-phase is a really cool setting. The original PRS 5-way rotaries gave you that for position 2.
Beginning in the 90s (I think) they switched to a different wiring and position 2 became more generic, with far less personality.
Perhaps that was the point, to make it more mainstream - series OOP really stands out from the other settings.

Ok the coil splits dont sound that great
mostly just like the humbucker, just lower output

I think I am going to put a piezo pad at the bottom of the bridge humbucker route

And go back to the 3 pickup options

bridge
Bridge + neck
Neck
Neck+ piezo
piezo

I think the piezo will be more useful than coil split
