5 way Fender Switch Wiring

Recently I got a SH2 (Jazz) pickup for the neck position of my guitar and I also got a new switch, a 5 way fender switch.

I've followed this diagram, because that was what I was looking for but the sound I'm getting is completely off.

Do you know if that wiring is correct? Or maybe I got the wrong switch.

Thanks in advance for any help!:onder:

Re: 5 way Fender Switch Wiring

-What is the Bridge pickup? (Verify color scheme)
-It's a Fender branded 5-way switch? Confirm the common lug on each side.
-Confirm solder quality and grounds

Re: 5 way Fender Switch Wiring

What were you expecting it to do?
And what exactly is it doing?

In positions number 1 and 2, the bridge pu sounds as it should, full humbucker and split.

In the middle position, it is only the neck pu.

Position number 4, it sound like an out of phase wiring.

Position number 5, is the outer coils of both pu's.

The color scheme shoud be the same, both are Duncan pu's, distortion in the bridge and jazz in the neck.
The ground wires are all connected properly.

Re: 5 way Fender Switch Wiring

Your first three positions should be (starting with traditional "bridge"'position selected):

-Bridge HB full
-B HB full in parallel with N HB full
-Neck HB full

I think your wiring on the side of the switch with the ground connection and neck red/white might not match the diagram/switch logic.

Do you have a picture of your switch wiring?

Re: 5 way Fender Switch Wiring

That drawing looks strange (wouldn't be the first). The neck splits only in position 4, while the bridge splits in positions 4 and 5, as far as I can tell. If I'm reading it correctly, that drawing does this:

1 Bridge humbucking
2 Bridge and neck humbucking
3 Neck humbucking
4 Neck and Bridge split
5 Neck humbucking, Bridge split (why would anyone want this as a standard wiring scheme?)

The bridge shouldn't split at position 2 (unless we aren't counting positions the same)

Re: 5 way Fender Switch Wiring

I would have to know what you are trying to do before I understand. What do you want the 5 way to do? A traditional 5 way isn't a great fit with 2 humbuckers. Yes, you can use it, but it does some strange, unintuitive things.
