5 way super switch wiring help..

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

Hi Igornopolis, and welcome to the forum!

I went ahead and made you a diagram based on the one you showed with position 2 being Bridge parallel instead of bridge split. Just so you're aware, the original diagram is not inner coils for position 3, but rather "upper" coils (inner bridge & outer neck). This puts the bridge North coil with the neck South coil (magnetically, not like looking at a map), thus making position 3 hum-canceling. I did the same thing in this diagram.

Also, just as in the diagram you provided, I used Seymour Duncan pickups for the color coding. If your pups AREN'T S-Ds, then you may need to find out which color wires are North Start, North Finish, South Finish, and South Start for your pickups.

Hello Sir,
I'm brand new hear (first post) and am very excited about exploring more about SD pups.
Thank you so much for posting that diagram for Igornopolis.
My only question is how would you add an additional tone so it's like a normal Stratocaster, one volume, one bridge tone, and one neck tone.
Would it be asking too much if you could post a diagram showing that? I won't be able to thank you enough. Any info would be SOOO appreciated!
Thank you, good Sir!!!

Hi Chris... welcome to the forum to you as well!

Your request was relatively easy to fulfill. When we want to add the additional tone control we need both tones to come before the switch instead of a single tone afterward, but the one tricky part was with the neck pickup. It's sort of running in reverse in this diagram, so we have to attach the tone to the red wire on the pickup instead of to the black one, which is the usual way.

Anyway, here's your diagram:

I hope it works for you. If you have any questions, just let me know... and keep us posted on your project! [emoji1303][emoji41]

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! Thank you SOOOOO much! I'm amassing parts in the meantime and I'll let you know how it goes.
Again, THANK YOU!!!!

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

Hello again,
On the diagram regarding the 5 way super switch: Is that a birds eye view or is that looking up from underneath the pick guard? I can't tell the orientation of it. This leads to my next question about the screw mount plate: Is it towards the pots (strat config) or is it facing away? I just want to make sure that I'm not wiring this thing up backwards? ANY additional advice or perspective is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!!!

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

No problem. The 5-way is looking at it from BENEATH... or as you would if you had it in a Strat pickguard and had it flipped over while working on it, or mounted in a rear cavity with the guitar face-down.

Not sure what you mean when you say "screw mount plate" though! [emoji848]

Ha, so sorry. I just meant the part of the switch body that is threaded for the mounting screws. But, you have cleared that up for me. Again, I can't thank you enough!

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

I noticed you added a tone to the diagram. I have basically the same pu's and super switch but I have 2 tones and 2 volumes. Can you advise how I can incorporate an extra volume. I am trying to trying to give each pu its own tone/volume if that is possible.

Thanks

In a nutshell, the difference between a single volume guitar and one that has two volumes is that on a single volume, the pickups connect to the switch, then to the volume, and then the output jack. With two volumes the pickups connect to their respective volume controls, then the switch, and then the output jack.

I could probably adjust that diagram for you, but it's likely to be a few days before I have the time. Let me know.

Good luck!

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

Thanks for the quick reply. Since I am not very good with electronics and when you have the time, a diagram would be so appreciated. It is great to be able to talk to such great folks concerning these issues.

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

Well guitarman42, I FINALLY got a chance to play with this diagram for you...

I set it up for independent volume controls, but if you prefer that the volumes interact with one another (typical LP setup), all you need to do is to reverse the center and right wires on the volume controls.

Enjoy! [emoji41]

Hi BriGuy1968 and everyone that replied. After reading this post I was quite happy to find the schematic that I was looking for, thank you.
I bought a Seymour Duncan Jazz Model for the neck and Invader for the bridge. I bought also a super switch. I got astonished after desoldering everything that I realised the switch is too big for the little height of a ibanez s series. After looking around, schaller have smaller 24 contacts super switches but they have various models. I know just enough to solder things around but I don't know which megaswitch model neither how the rewiring will be, anyone wise and gentle enough to help?

Thank you

Hi ph4nt0ma5ter, and welcome to the forum!

Those Schaller megaswitches are confusing with all the different models they offer... not to mention that they're a little stingy with giving out how the innards of their switches are connected. However, if the Megaswitch "M" will fit in your cavity it looks like it will do the trick. From what I can tell it's set up just like most other super switches.

I ran into the same problem with one of my projects, but it was close enough that I was just able to bend over the tabs on the switch so that I could get it into the cavity and close it!

Good luck! :fing2:

Hi BriGuy1968,
I contacted Shaller about their Megaswitch M. And they provided a more information with:
https://www.schaller-electronic.com/hp548215/Own-schematic.htm

and having: https://www.schaller-electronic.com/hp543134/Megaswitch-M.htm as reference, things are clearer.

Thank you

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

Hi all,
After soldering the cables it turns out that my bridge pickup (Seymour Duncan Invader - SH-8B 7S ) is working but the neck pickup isn't (JAZZ NECK - 7 STRG SH-2N 7). After using a multi-meter I found out all solderings are working or at least passing current. Any ideas of what may be wrong?
Both have seymour duncan (S_D in the diagram below) printed in the bottom part of the pickup(obviously neck up, bridge down) so orientation in the guitar I think is good. The wires coloring that I'm using are (I think normal seymour duncan) for both:

/---------\--- +Black
|0000000|
\_______/--- -White
/---------\--- +Red
|0000000|
\__S_D_/--- -Green

Re: 5 way super switch wiring help..

I blindly re-soldered the neck white wire to the ground. As I seen another post here to a reply similar to mine.

So the neck(1) position I can ear sound at very low volume and clean, 2 and 3 nothing. 4 & 5 loud and clear.

Thank you for your patience.
