Guys, I need help again.

ok Im thinking of getting a 5 way switching guitar with 2 humbuckers.

Im so confused with the 2 and 4 positions! I know that postition 1 is the neck and the 3rd is both and the 5 is the bridge....what is the 2 and 4th???!

Please send pics or try your best to explain to me please.

Re: 5 way switching with 2 humbuckers~!

The 2nd and 4th positions are usually set for coil splits to be happening for "stratish" sounds w/o hum, or sounds that are a bit unusual (often the third position is set for such shenanigans is as well). Depends on the guitar what exactly happens, though, in the sense of which coils in which combo on which position ;)

Re: 5 way switching with 2 humbuckers~!

i do this with a P type megaswitch ... it gives the samecombinations as the PRS rotary 5-way, but in a blade 5-way ... the #2 and #4 combinations can be very cool indeed .. largely dependent on how the neck and bridge humbuckers blend ... the combinations are 'inner' and 'outer' coils ... look it up on stewmac

In the Schecter Blackjack Series most of the guitars have a 5 way switch....I guess I really need a picture to understand :smack:

When using a 5-way switch for two humbuckers, #1 is neck, #2 is both, and #3 is bridge. Then you have #4 and #5 for other things, usually splitting.

Like this:

Note: I have a habit of refering to #1 as the neck. SD and Fender do it the opposite as you view that diagram.

#2 for me is the inside coils, #4 is outside coils. i stole this from a Music Man Axis Super Sport diagram at the Ernie Ball site- sounds great!

i had purchased a switch and parts from stew mac and i had the same problem but somehow somewhere i wound up going from 2 mini-buckers and a single with 2 tone and volume to the 2 minis and 1 vol/tone setup with 1 being bridge 2 bridge and neck 3 neck 4 split bridge and neck and 5 bridge split but it gets a good funky sound when needed and all out metal sound as well as clean and even though its the hot rails it doesnt sound muddy at all even with my bassman sometimes its too trebly go figure

Re: 5 way switching with 2 humbuckers~!

i have a 6 position switch in my les paul. Position 1 is bridge, Position 2 is the Bridge wired in parallel, Position 3 is both outside coils of the HB's, Position 4 is both hb's, Position 5 is both inside coils of the hb's and position 6 is the neck pup. I have no idea about how you go about wiring that, i got a guitar tech to do it for me. My advice is to go for both inside coils and both outside coils in positions 2 and 4.
