500K instead of 250K for tone question.

In my Wolfgang Special I'm using a 500K pot for the volume, and a 250K push/pull pot for the tone. If I used a 500K push/pull for the tone would I notice much differance in overall clarity? Thanks.

I am not an expert but what theory saids it that you should expect a little bit treblier sound. I don't think the "clarity" will be affected. The quality of the replacement tone pot will affect more that its own resistance.

Hi Mike; if you change from a 250k tone pot, to a 500k tone pot, the new pot will work exactly like the old one from 0 to 5. So basically, you've added the extension of 5 to 10. You can "dial-in" a bit more treble, or technically speaking, shunt less of it to ground.

I would disagree that the "quality" of the control will affect the sound. 500k is 500k. The quality will only affect how the pot "feels" and how long it lasts. ;)

What they said!

Your guitar will sound brighter with 500K pots. Also, a 250K tone pot allows some treble to leak through it to ground even when it's on "10"...a 500K tone pot will prevent most of that treble from leaking out of the signal...but some will still leak through. No tone pot would be the brightest.

what about the 1 meg?
if i buy a air zone and air norton set for a basswood RG with locking trem, and i find the air zone to be too round or not crisp enough will a 1 meg be a solution?

it might be. it will open up quite a bit of high end, too much for my tastes in most circumstances but i do use a tbx tone pot (a 250k from 1-5 and 1 meg from 6-10) with the fender mid boost to bring back some treble with the neck pup and boost all the way up. works great for that
