Clint has good tips but I don't like anything other than 250k for single coils. It just sounds single coily with 250k. If that works for the Demon, great.

My HSS strat has 2 volume knobs. One 250k for the singles and one 500k for the HB. It's great.

I use 500k. 250k would still prob. sound good with the Demon but I'm not compelled to swap pots; even without a tone control.

A cool video that I came across recently where he discusses the different effects of resistance (pot value for example) and capacitance (ie cap value). Before I saw this video I kind of noticed a difference between the effect of the load of the pots and the size of the cap but I wasn't really sure what was going on. This put it into words for me.

He says at 5:35 that resistance lowers the amplitude of the resonant peak while capacitance shifts the resonant peak towards bassier frequencies.

I think it is worth it for everyone to try both at least once. Pots are cheap, and it will help you understand the differences. You might also come up with a custom combination of the 2 that you like. I use 500k, 250k, 500k for my HSS.

There is a guy that creates wiring kits that allows you to run 250k, 500k, 750k, or 250k & 500k simultaneously without rewiring anything. Just remember though, a higher pot value is brighter, and a lower cap value is brighter. Lower pots = Warmer sound.
