500k pots with single coils, what can I expect?

Re: 500k pots with single coils, what can I expect?

You can expect your guitar to sound brighter...to have more treble...to maybe have to much treble...to maybe hurt your ears with ice pick sharp highs...but then again, it might just sound perfect to you for the first time ever. :laugh2: Lew

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of Lowell George. A steel slide (actually a Craftsmen spark plug socket), A strat and a whole lot of volume. If I tried that dogs all over the South would be howling in pain. I like Brass and Glass through humbuckers, a nice rich sound.
But Lowell made it work, beautifully I might add. One man's shrill is another man's gold.

i have 500k tone pots and a 250k volume pot. i am gonna change the volume to a 500k next time i am under the hood. so far it doesn't sound too brittle at all. in fact, i think it sounds a little better.

Hmmm...I wonder if it depends on the pickups? When I made my swampash strat, I decided to use 250k no-load pots. When I roll the pot from 9 (close to 250k resistance) to 10 (infinite), the volume gets louder, the treble gets more pronounced, but the pickups also get bassier.
